Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. I had the door panels repaired and got them back today.

You will also need to repair the leatherette under the top of the handle trim as the 986 mounts a little differently.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys, will the 986 panels fit fine on our 996's? They look virtually identical, other than the handle and pocket. I've been eyeing a couple of full leather 986 panels that I was just planning to swap in, and then just move my existing handles and pockets to them.
I just did this and you will have an interesting time with the compartment doors. They are different between 986 and 996 and requires a bit more work to switch over the compartment covers. You will also need to repair the leatherette under the top of the handle trim as the 986 mounts a little differently.
Wrt the door panel, I'm waiting for an estimate from a local shop. There have been others who have done this kind of work but I'm not one of them!
The compartment door hinge is a little more involved as the hinge mechanism itself changed

The change over required I move parts 37 and 39 over to the 986 door panel. This required that I drill a hole in the 986 panel to accommodate part 37 and also the pin on the other side.
Of course, Porsche couldnt have just made it easy on us 🤦🏻♂️. I guess Ill have to do some thinking. Having those holes there is not an easy fix, especially as Im planning to go to a leather panel.
Anyone else done the swap, and can provide any tips?
Also FYI early handles have a different bowden cable.
There are also different textures between some of the years - dimpled vs leatherette vs genuine leather.
I had no issue with the Bowden cable, handle operation is as expected.
I had the door panels repaired and got them back today. The results are pretty good IMHO. Zoom up where the door handle is located. Not perfect but infinitely better than when I got the car.
