Suggestion · Original poster

I was able to remove the interior trim panels (one on each side and one across the front) and actually did a good job of changing the color of the panels from tan to (something close to) Metropol Blue.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

First off, never, ever, decide to buy the wrong color hardtop and decide to repaint/refinish it. Unless, I suppose, you got it almost free, which I did. I was able to remove the interior trim panels (one on each side and one across the front) and actually did a good job of changing the color of the panels from tan to (something close to) Metropol Blue. The problem is I can't get these clips back in - they are super old/brittle and don't seem to engage. I think the right part is 99950776440, which in the parts catalog looks wonky but Pelican shows as the right part. I'm wondering if there is a known easily sourced substitute and I'm planning on hitting the autobody supply place to check, but wondering if this clip is also used in other places and maybe someone has BTDT?

POST 2Original post

When I removed my trim, I replaced all the fasteners. As I recall, the side panels were hard to snap-in.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found an equivalent on german ebay and am waiting for them. At my count, 22 are needed. Apparently this same clip is common on BMW door panels starting with the E36.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Shipment still pending, so I ordered a 100 pack of BMW part 51411973500 from ebay in the US. Will report back if they are the same.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Bmw style clips sort of worked but are not perfect. Still waiting for the German order to arrive...

POST 6Original post

Hi, did you ever manage to source the clips for your hardtop trim panels as per your post in 2020. i currently have the exact same problem and am struggling to get hold of the right clips. many thanks john

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The German order that came in was the same clips, same as on a BMW E46/E39 door. As I said, they sort of work, but not perfect.
