I do have the smartTOP module installed but I've tried it with and without the module and the problem is the same.

I have (had) a Durametric to check codes but moved and now can't find it anymore.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.
1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

They claim that the car is working normally but I know that it didn't work this way when I dropped it off.
I have a 2000 996 cab and the windows no longer close when I close the top. This just started after I had some work done on my car by the Porsche dealer. They claim that the car is working normally but I know that it didn't work this way when I dropped it off. I think that I've ruled out the obvious so I'm wondering if anyone has some thoughts on additional troubleshooting. Previously, the windows would all close with the top automatically without having to manually close the windows. Now, the top closes properly but it leaves all the windows open so you have to then manually close each window. The manual window buttons seem to be locked out until the top closes and latches. I don't know if this is normal or not since I never had to close my window manually after the top closed before! After the top fully latches, I can then manually close the windows. The windows work perfectly otherwise. The windows open and close manually, the one touch function works and the window drops properly with the door handle lift. I've tried to reset the windows by holding the close button for 10 seconds after opening and closing but this doesn't change anything.
I do have the smartTOP module installed but I've tried it with and without the module and the problem is the same. Does any other cab owner know if the windows should close automatically with the top without the smartTOP module? This might tell me that the problem is in the smartTOP module.
My thinking is that there is some condition that the top controller is looking for to allow it to close the windows automatically such as a microswitch position or fault indicator. However, whatever this is, it doesn't stop you from closing the windows manually. Otherwise it has to be that the top controller changed is own programming since the Porsche dealer claims that they did not.
First thing I'd check is the hook on the front center windshield latch. Does it have the proper plastic cover, or is it broken? Does it actuate the microswitch where the hook goes in the top of the windshield? There are several threads on this issue.
here's one:

This seems like a possibility. I had researched this and discounted it because I got the idea that this problem would prevent you from closing the windows even manually but now I'm not sure. I will try this out this weekend. Thanks.
The dealer did work on the top. I had mice chew up some wires that prevented the top from closing and thought that I should have a dealer fix this - bad idea. They were idiots and had the car 4 different times over six months and really seemed to be breaking more things than they were fixing so I took it away from them and am trying to fix this last issue myself. They claimed that there weren't any codes and that this was the way it is supposed to work. There is the possibility that they didn't repair one of the chewed wires but they claim that they fixed them all. I have (had) a Durametric to check codes but moved and now can't find it anymore.
So I found my Durametric and I do get a Time Limit Exceeded fault code. I'm not sure why I would get this code even though the top closes properly. However, it seems like this may prevent the windows from going up automatically if it doesn't think the top closed all the way. I also have leaking hydraulic rams so I'm going to get these fixed first. Maybe a weak hydraulic system is causing the Time Limit Exceeded code and that is preventing the windows from going up automatically.
