Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I did look into that, and there are a lot of posts, but they all seem to say those cables can't be adjusted and the whole top needs to be replaced - unless I'm not understanding what I'm looking at.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Im looking at a replacement of my top this winter. Does a dealer do this? Does it come as a kit or is it custom sewn? Any recommendation for who does this work in northern New England?
TIA
A dealer will charge you well over $6000, an auto upholstery shop will charge about $2000. If you have a Porsche indy or body shop that you trust, ask them for a recommendation.
GAHH makes excellent tops, but are a bit pricey. I had mine done a few years ago at a local auto upholstery shop. It was $3400 total, and I think it was about half for the top, and half for installation. I paid extra for the top with the small glass window for the `99, and the heavy duty A5 canvas.
Got mine last year from topsonline.com for $1,073 (A5 sonneland; metropol blue, plastic window orig spec) and installed for $900 cash from local auto upholsterer in CT. Under $2k all in.
The plastic windows are larger than glass which improves visibility especially for tall drivers.
Wow that's a great price! My top is 80% great condition. The 20% being the sides are pulled inward when closed and so the cable runners are getting bent under when it closes, unless I manually insert them into the frame when still slightly open. And so the top is now pulling off those cables. I was thinking it was going to be $$$$$ to replace, but your post is giving me great hope! Your top looks amazing as I too would want plastic window again.
What do they mean by "Both styls come with Factory Zipper around rear window zips to OEM Headliner"? Maybe I just havn't noticed a zipper in mine?

The headliner zips into the top (or vice versa) and the zippers are kinda hidden. Usually headliners are in decent condition being out of the weather and you can get away with only the top replacement. Your local auto upholsterer should know what to do when presented a new top in a box.
