Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
I am still running a stock dme on my 4.0 (Hoffman stage 1 heads, stock intake, fab speed x pipe).
Leading evidence: 'Run stock dme' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run stock dme' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

We are currently just using our engine dyno for our break in procedure under load.

Here is 4.1L we are installing today that we machined and built here in the US using Hartech cylinders, pistons, processes and technology.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Some interesting takeaways from the video. Under the second owner the engine failed because it wasn't driven that much. Wonder what actually caused the single piston failure. Even more surprising is that he replaced the one piston and it took another 10 years and 50k miles for it to go again. Definitely not the right way of addressing the problem but also surprised with how long it lasted.
nice video and makes me feel even better about my project.
Purchased car, built up a 4.0 and manual swapped it....and I feel like I could still make a couple of bucks if I sell.
I mean, I've done the 3.8 conversion on my 996.1, and I've been very happy with it, except for the amount of money spent on the project...
Overall, I think the generality is people used to crap on the 996, but probably never drove (a good) one.
I will also confess that I did go to a nicer coilover setup, but probably could have stayed with my stock setup and it would have been fine...

Great video but we are a little biased. Here is 4.1L we are installing today that we machined and built here in the US using Hartech cylinders, pistons, processes and technology.
As requested?
We are currently just using our engine dyno for our break in procedure under load. We have a few more steps to take before we can consistently produce dyno graphs that are an accurate and repeatable representation of the power of the engine. But as a standard 4.1L capacity upgrade utilizing stock heads, intake and tune (all we did was recalibrate the MAF table), it should come in around 385 with the additional power felt throughout the entire range.
interesting about the tune. I am still running a stock dme on my 4.0 (Hoffman stage 1 heads, stock intake, fab speed x pipe). Runs like a champ but wondering if there's much left on the table that would benefit from a tune?
The Bosch ECU's are really sophisticated. They have an optimal tune map that they are trying to achieve and 6 different maps for each major parameter that they switch between to try hit the optimal map. When you moved to a 4.0L, your cylinders are now pulling more air past the MAF then what it is expecting and so all of the calculations will be a little off. I haven't done a back to back comparison yet to see the impact though but will look to do so in the near future.
