Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The issue persisted, and one day, after being extremely late, I gunned it and lost all top gears (also misfire) (R, 1, 3, 5).
Hello, I was hoping I could get some help. I have a 2001 911 Carrera. Here is what's wrong. The vehicle is misfiring at 5k rpm. Here is a list of what happened
1. The clutch went out 6 months ago. --> Bought a brand new clutch kit from Porsche and resurfaced the flywheel. (The car was fine for 2 months)
2. Then, the vehicle one day started misfiring at around 90 mph. --> I replaced all six coils and spark plugs (997)
3. The issue persisted, and one day, after being extremely late, I gunned it and lost all top gears (also misfire) (R, 1, 3, 5). Once I stopped, the gears returned, and I noticed a leak between the engine and transmission.
4. Noticed the transmission had cracked. By the time everything was said and done, the transmission had cracked all around the bellhousing and was in 2 pieces. --> Bought a new transmission.
5. After installing the new transmission, I drove it around, and it was very shaky, still misfiring, and leaking. --> Replaced the clutch, flywheel, and rear main seal. (Luk Ebay./ RMS from Porsche) This removed some of the violent shaking for the most part, but still misfired at high RPM and leaked.
6. I bought the IMS kit because that was the only thing that could leak between the engine and transmission. --> The leaking has stopped; however, at high rpm around 5k, the car is still misfiring.
This is what the IMS Kit included:
(Single Row IMS Bearing) --> Mine was extremly thicker
(2x Aluminium rings for chain tensioners)
(2x Rubber rings for chain tensioners)
(2x camshaft plugs)
(1 Small Oring for centre pin)
(1 Seal for IMS Flange)
(1 Nut for Ims Centre pin)
(3 bolts for IMS Flange)
(1 Rear Main Seal) -- Replaced again
If anyone could please help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
Such a scary post !! So many things that should never have happened...Flywheel re-surfaced, three clutches in 6 months, misfires only above 5k rpm, broken transmission bellhousing, two flywheel repairs, IMS bearing ...wow.. and all started when a clutch went out ...
What are the missfire codes ?
Are they only on one particular cylinder ?
Are there any other Fault Codes besides misfires?
Did the first flywheel happen to be a Single Mass Flywheel ?? .......( thinking to myself that you could have a broken crankshaft)
I appreciate your help: Misfire (Total) or something similar. Then, the Misfire cylinders are 1, 3, 5, and 6, but they are always different (never 6 at a time). The check engine light also never stays on. Also, the vehicle idle fines and is perfect until 5k rpm but the second you touch it, it will flash the check engine light; however, there is no loss of power or anything of the sort. If it weren't for the light, you would not even be able to tell. However, I do not want to crack another transmission, so I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Well here is the thing, misfires alone no mater how severe will not crack a bellhousing......
It takes thousands of lbs of force or very high Harmonic Vibrations to break a bellhousing
So if the only problem you have now is missfires then don't worry about breaking another bell housing..
What doesn't add up is that you have not stated ANY root cause of ANY of the things that have went wrong/failed..
That said the only time I have had an M96 that only missfired above 5k rpm was one that had a worn out intake cam lobe and only one intake valve was opening/closing so it ran well at low RPM and was very smooth but above 5k RPM with only one intake valve opening would not get enough air so would cause missfire codes but still felt smooth just a little down on power...
"This is what the IMS Kit included:
(Single Row IMS Bearing) --> Mine was extremly thicker"
Can you elaborate more on this? When you say yours was "thicker" do you mean wider? Did you confirm with the kit supplier that they sent you the correct bearing?
