Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

19 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche announced the opening of a classic restoration facility in Atlanta , which was previously only available in Germany. Very interesting for those of us with 996s that are a little rough around the edges. The announcement proudly featured the 996 classic club coupe

POST 3Original post

Incredible. I appreciate Porsche supporting their older models. Most manufacturers don't do anything like this, at least not in the US. Certainly will be the most expensive option, but if you want it done perfectly, this is the best option I'm sure.

POST 4Original post

BMW acts like they do with their classic program but it's a fraud. They just build their own cars when they feel like it. BMW does anything but support it's vintage cars. Long live PORSCHE

POST 5Original post

It only makes sense to do it. Nothing is billed to internal or warranty tickets and its all customer paid. They will make a killing.

POST 6Original post

Theyve actually been doing this in Atlanta for quite some time I was there in 2016 and they had at least 3 cars in the bays that they were restoring. My gut tells me theyve just rebranded the program and started a marketing campaign. In any case its a nice program if youve got mounds of cash and dont mind spending it!

POST 7Original post

Porsche is the greatest marketing machine in the world. Smart move. Now is a good time to rebrand and relaunch after Seinfeld paid $1.3 million for the 996 Club Coupe. Be interesting to see how flexible and creative they will be in doing a resto. Will they do a gt3 swap for an m96 engine as a one off? Will the program be a bespoke program with no limitations inside and out, or just purely a resto to original and no more than that. And yes, what are the costs?

POST 8Original post

^^^^ Mounds of cash and then some. The guys there are really approachable. If you’re ever at PCNA, go downstairs to the museum display and the resto shop. They love to talk about what they’re working on.

POST 9Original post

The porsche center here in Wilmington, NC, are restoring their own 996. In fact I think it's close to complete. I was told that it's a mandate from Porsche, but I've no details. I'm having my car inspected there next week, I'm hoping to learn more and see the car. I have always had my car serviced by an Indy here, and I'm completely satisfied, but I am moving to rural Canada very shortly, and so I want to make sure the Porsche centric work is double checked. I'm going to have the UAOS and injectors, oil cooler, brake master cylinder reservoir, and front ball joints done. Fingers crossed that will be sufficient for many miles of daily use. I've done almost everything else.

POST 10Original post

@damage98MO Where are you moving to in rural Canada? Might be able to give you some options for Indys...

POST 11Original post

The one thing that comes to my mind - parts availability. As our cars are approaching 25 years old, parts become very important. Glad that Porsche is supporting our "classic" cars!

THIS! While getting aftermarket parts for some things might be ok, being able to get real OEM factory parts is huge.

Gaudin porsche in Las Vegas was certified by Porsche Stuttgart to sell and service certified classic porsche vehicles I think in 1918 ish. I was invited to the grand opening and party. It was awesome. https://stuttgartdna.com/porsche-res...che-las-vegas/

POST 15Original post

I don't know how things have been earlier but if this is any indication this is probably excellent news. During the last few months I've been buying probably around 50+ parts for the engine etc from Porsche Finland (and naturally they get the parts from Germany directly) and they have been awesome - every single part - even a couple not so common ones - have arrived in a week or less. Seems to me that 996 and the other classics are getting the attention that they deserve so if they are setting up a real Porsche facility here for restoration etc this is big news what comes to the parts availability.

POST 16Original post

The Restoration program references the Sport Club Classic and a couple others, but Recommission is a Carrera GT only program. Seems like a lot of overlap?

Yes, VW could learn a thing or two. Try getting a turn signal for a Corrado. Or anything else with a 535 part#.

Maybe we'll soon have an economical and plentiful source of factory short blocks to choose from! :-D

POST 19Original post

Maybe someone close to the Atlanta facility will stop buy and find out what they will do for restoration, what the ball park costs may be, and what it means for future availability of parts.
