Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you look close behind the drivers door you'll see some damage, should be an easy repair for me.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Your thoughts is all, It's a 2002 996 flawless Bose system perfect interior, coupe black on black with 117k on it, New clutch and IMS no leaks, it was lightly scraped by truck behind drivers door so
it holds a salvage title he's selling it for 10k good deal?
Thanks, Scott
Well, I bought my 2000 C4 Cab for just $15k plus $5k to sort it out, which makes the total cost $20k which is about the going rate for the car in my area.
So, if everything (including the engine) checks out and you can repair everything for $10k or less, seems like a reasonable deal to me, although it would be better to buy a car did had no "issues" and required few or no repairs for the same price.
Note that most (if not all) lenders will NOT make a loan on a salvage titled vehicle. So, if you resell the car, you are limited to cash buyers only.
For resale a salvage car gets 60-70% a normal car....so I would put that in the equation. So if a typical car sells for 20k, you can expect between $12k-14k for resale.
If your buying a collector car as an investment, avoiding salvage is no-brainer. With a car like this, where it is unlikely to greatly appreciate in value, salvage is a great way to save a whole bunch of money and be able to enjoy a brilliant car.
Let us know how this goes. If you end up deciding not to pick it up I would be interested in flying out and road tripping back home to Indiana with it.
Can't really tell where the damage is located on the car. Are you sure its from the accident and not something else? Flood damage?
Buy it, deal with the problems, and then drive it and enjoy.

Just saw the pics. Looks nice! Just $10k really? If it runs right and everything is sorted out, I'd say grab it, drive it and enjoy it.
Based on the area code, it's in my area and I'd snipe it if I needed/wanted another 996 but I've already got a 996 and I have ABSOLUTELY no need/desire for another black car. One of those is enough . . .
LOL!
Thanks guys for your thoughts and advice and seeing such a positive response I bought the car today and I can't be happier, I've loved Porsche since I was 12 yrs old
I've owned a few 914's, 3 944's, 2 928 's and my daily driver a 99' Boxster which has been a great reliable fun car now this 911 Carrera my dream car!
Thanks again, Scott
Just drove it up to Tahoe up the fun and twisty hwy 50 from Sacramento the car ran great no odd noises everything works as it should
Next thing is to get it on the track to learn the limits of the car This is like no other car I've owned and very much aware of it's handling
characteristics and mistakes are not forgiven much! So all and all I think I did ok on this one it's such a nice car!
Congrats on the purchase, seems like a good deal. Salvage cars can be great buys if you know what you are getting into. Depending on when the car was damaged it doesn't always take much to write off a car. I bought a 2004.5 VW GLI off an exes dad years ago, when those cars were still relatively new and somewhat special in the VW community. It cost me $2900 to fix and get back on the road. The rear quarter still had a little damage that would have cost me another $2000 to pay someone to get perfect but it didn't bother me.
Another great example of an insurance company screwing over a perfectly good car. Automotive dealers love this so they can force people to buy new cars too. Insurance companies are evil, change my mind.
To really test/enjoy the car, you should try what I call the 4 passes Sierra Tour, which is usually a 2 day event for me, which I've done on motorcycle and car (my MR2). Haven't tried it on my 911 yet but it's certainly something it could handle well.
The passes are Tioga (120), Sonora (108), Monitor (89) and Carson (88). I usually schedule the stop over in Columbia. Start/end at which ever end that you prefer but I usually take out Tioga and Sonora 1st w/the stop in Columbia and then finish w/Monitor and Carson b4 heading home to the Bay Area.
Actually the damage doesn't have to be close to the value of the car. It could be 40% or less. It has to do with the cost of known repairs, the cost of potential repairs due to damage found later, and the anticipated value when the car is sold at auction. If a damaged running 996 can bring a net of 6k at auction and the cost of repairs is 3 - 4k, or even less, they would total the car if they value it at 10k. My insurance agent described a similar situation in the past. Insurance companies are great at crunching numbers.
Forgot to mention that the battery no longer holds a charge. I did try a trickle charger and also a standard battery charger but it won't hold 12 volts.
