Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use the copper spray on all MLS gaskets (except exhaust manifold gaskets).

Leading evidence: 'Use copper spray' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'needing' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check belt items, havent actually thought about what i need' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I thought the issue was the needing to upgrade the TWO hoses.

Will check the belt items, havent actually thought about what I need for that part yet, besides a before photo of belt pathway.

Check your belt tensioner and idler pulleys for smooth operation when replacing the belt.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Getting ready to do the water pump job plus new lines and belt. Also upgrading to LN low temp thermo. Does it look like I have everything I need?
Water pump
Water pump gasket
LN Low temp thermo
LN thermo removal tool
LN thermo gasket
Water line hard pipe (upgraded version)
Water line flexible pipe (upgraded version)
Serpentine belt
Five bolts I matched from others to replace the ones for the pump
Porsche coolant (two showing, but will get third)
Quickjack and floor jack
Airlift tool to purge and refill
Assorted wrenches and sockets
Needed: Some more 5-gal buckets, stuff to wipe up mess
Seems like all the right parts plus some nice when you are in there items. Make sure the water pump is the plastic impeller type and not metal.
You will need a floor Jack to support the motor when the rear engine cradle is loosened to get access to some of the water pump bolts. Also need a torque wrench and some penetrating fluid to best avoid breaking bolts. Check your belt tensioner and idler pulleys for smooth operation when replacing the belt.
Yes OE porsche pump with plastic impeller.
Yes, floor jack.
Yes a couple torque wrenches, and PB Blaster.
Will check the belt items, havent actually thought about what I need for that part yet, besides a before photo of belt pathway.
Thanks!
Get a cheap set of hose removal tools (hooks), like the ones from Harbor Freight. It helps a great deal on breaking the seal on the old hoses.
Edit: The only ones I can find on the Harbor Freight site are $60. Crazy. This one from Amazon will do the job for less than $7.

Maybe Harbor Freight has cheaper ones if you visit the store. I know I only paid a few dollars for a set of hooks a few years ago.
+1 one the pulleys and depending on your mileage, Id replace all of them. My idler pulley exploded and upon inspection all of the others were cracked and needed to be replaced.
That bastard only had about 54k miles on it.

You will also need distilled water to mix with the antifreeze. Do not use tap water. I used this in a recent water pump replacement:
Joe Gibbs Racing Driven CSP Coolant System Protector (12oz Bottle) 50030 (lnengineering.com)
.
I also got the low temp, same as you, and it takes some getting used to since it slows down how fast the engine reaches operating temp, but you get used to it.
4Driver4, I am looking at the picture. I'm hoping the rubber grommets are stuck to the bottom of your air box, because they aren't here in the picture.
Yes, will mix with distilled 50/50.
Per operating temp, I'm doing this now to prepare for the 100F+ temps in summer - so hopefully it'll do just that !
Jake had commented previously on using a copper gasket spray on the WP gasket. It was debated and i cant find the post but i used it based on his recommendation and had zero leaks. His reasoning was he had seen more than one leak after a rebuild lead to failure. Good enough for him, good enough for me.
Vacuum fill, while nice, isnt necessary. Just be cautious filling. Use multiple cycles of running to temp and filling. Keep an eye on the reservior.
Watch the TQ on the idler pulley bolts. One is much lower than the other. I misread it and snapped a bolt in half.
Good luck. Hope you have small hands as it made the job much easier.
Do you have a '99?
The upgraded lines
DID NOT
fit on my '99. The kink at the top of the flexible hose doesn't align with the coolant tank. When you compare the coolant tank to later years you'll see that the connection point for the hose is set further back into the engine bay (about 1-1.5 inches) hence. The earlier flexible hose is straight and does not have a kink.
I ended up upgrading both pipes and the newer coolant tank. The newer tank is slightly larger which makes it a massive pain in the *** to install.
I use the copper spray on all MLS gaskets (except exhaust manifold gaskets). I don't trust them to seal little scrapes and divots as well as clayboard or paper gaskets.
