Yes, I wish you good luck and happy smiles and many many miles.....was this an original insurance crashmobile restored with extensive use of fiberglass and a host of bonding agents?

Suggestion

Although I have daydreamed of using various parts from a RS 60 Boxster along with installing a 996 turbo to a roller Boxster, with some refinements in the outlaw spirit, however, for me the jury is still out for this concept.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So I acquired a I would say unique conversion lol it's a 1980 911sc rebodied into a 996 turbo. Yes you read that right lol here are some pictures enjoy ps it has a cammed 3.2 carrera engine.

POST 2Original post

Well, usually you see most people saying how do I make my 996 looks like something else. Can't say I've ever seen this done.

POST 3Original post

Well, this is the first time I've seen any aircooled Porsche converted to a 996. Heart be still! If it were me, I'd turn it BACK into it's original aircooled 1980 911 body. I love the 996, but not like this.

POST 5Original post

One way to ruin what was a great looking car! WTF!

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 17303951

Exactly! It's like people that buy 996 cars and spend upwards $10K or more converting them into 997 cars. I'm like ... why don't you just go find a REAL 997!? Makes better sense.

POST 7Original post

Depending how much you got it for, you may be in the money, the 3.2 engine alone is worth more than many 996s out there.

POST 8Original post

That is one of the strangest conversions or body kits that I have ever seen.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree with you guys it wouldn't be the work I would of done to it that's for sure. But it really doesn't look all that bad in person. Definitely turns a lot of heads lol. I think I did a good deal on it. I'm going to drive it enjoy it and fix things as they pop up for the moment.

POST 11Original post

we should re-name / name-swap the thread titles, cause this is a confused 996 but I don't hate it, congrats on your purchase

POST 12Original post

However, I did install sugar scoop headlights on my 64 C after some stone damage to the original glass-covered headlights........At any rate, would one call this a 996SC or SC996....?

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17305367

Thank you for the kind wishes. Not sure what you mean by an original crash mobile? Well it's a mixture of 996 turbo 911sc and 3.2 carrera so I think Frankenporsche lol

POST 14Original post

How about a side view?

POST 15Original post

Buy a SC roller and start swapping parts back? A good start would be selling the headlights, rear lights, spoiler and decklid. You could get a good chunk of change for those parts and start acquiring the SC parts. Probably come out somewhat even and have a fun, correct SC.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17317563

Here's the side shot. Im pondering which way to move forward with this car. A. Either keep it this way and drive it and enjoy it and save some money. B. Sell the parts that are on it and buy a roller and return to as original as I can C. I seen a 993 conversion kit for a 911sc that looks pretty good that someone was selling

POST 18Original post

It's ultimately your call to keep it as is, turn back into an SC or even a 993 as you suggested. If it was mine, I would turn it back into an SC, because it's an SC. If it runs, and all the parts are solid and attached, it gives you time to drive and enjoy while you figure it out.

Does anyone remember Gone In 60 Seconds from 2000 ? That 911 in the opening scene was a converted 1978 911

POST 20Original post

Amazing work! Congrats! Ignore the haters. Pete

What the one they stole out of the showroom? Are you sure because that looks a lot like a stock MK1 996 to me!

POST 22Original post

Quotes source post: 17320569

Yeah that one. I thought it was a stock mk1 too until I was searching for that clip last night and came across the Barrett Jackson auction for it a few years ago https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...PE-TINA-117415 Apparently the earlier car was lighter to do the stunts so they just converted it.

POST 23Original post

Looks great and if you're enjoying it, that's all that matters.
