Both the 7.5" and 8" front wheel were fitted with the same size tire from the factory.

Needless to say, they took my picture and the idea I had and ran with it.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all, I am looking to purchase the below sport design wheels. It looks like they don't come up for sale often, so thought I would reach out here. I am located in WA state, so ideally looking on the west coast to save on shipping if at all possible. I welcome all comments, Thank you!
Scott
Be aware of the different widths and offsets when you find a set. They were also made for the 986 Boxster in 18" but the widths and offsets are different. The fronts for the 996 were available in 7.5" and 8". Most of the fronts you find will be 7.5". The 8" front wheels were used on the 996.1 GT3 and were an option when you ordered them for later cars.
It took me almost 2 years to put a set together with 8" front and 10" rear. I found all four wheels individually off eBay. It just took awhile. Good luck!
Thanks
@RedTele
, yes I should have stated that. I have noticed that as well. I would be looking for the 8" fronts to better match up with my current stock setup. I suppose I could go the 7.5 route, however, a bigger spacer isn't ideal.
If you absolutely can't find a set on eBay or other - I had very good luck sourcing a set of Cup II's from here
https://www.autorimshop.com/wheelfin...11-2927220?p=1
inventory can be hit or miss - but they do sell wheels that are straight and very well refinished
......be vigilant
I'm fairly certain that even with the 8" and 10" wheels on the 996.1 GT3, the factory used 5mm spacers on all 4 corners.
Both the 7.5" and 8" front wheel were fitted with the same size tire from the factory.
I have a set of these but the fronts are 7.5". My 1999 996 came from the factory with these wheels. I pulled them because i wanted wider wheels so i went with the Carrera II 5 spoke which really like and i could get in 8" for the front. I had 10mm wheel spacers on the front with the Sport Cup and that pushed the wheels out pretty nice to the fender lip. I had the ECS hub centric specially designed for Porsches and they are great spacers. My wheels are currently sitting in my garage with 2 year old Conti Extreme Contact tires with less than 3,000 miles on them. Too bad you aren't close to Colorado.
A note regarding these wheels: they are a lot of maintenance to keep clean. They can corrode between the two wheel sections and bolts. My are in fairly decent condition but i took care of them. The 5 spoke are much easier to keep clean. Just my opinion.
Here is my 996 with the original factory wheels.
@NWI Bill
thanks for reaching out and the explanation! Yes, agreed they will require more cleaning, but they look so good. Are you willing to sell just the wheels? If so, maybe you could send a PM. I also use the ECS spacers on my current factory twists and agree they do work quite well. Nice 996!
@Kris Murphy
Hello! Just following up. I see you are on the opposite coast but thought I would reach out anyway. Are you still willing to sell a set? If so I can send you a PM. Might be worth shipping if the price is right! Thanks for chiming in!
Scott
I just pmd you I have a very nice set in SoCal Im willing to sell.
Btw I have no spacers on these and I have 235/40/18 fronts and 285/35/18 rears no rubbing at all. I think thats about as big a tire you can put on these. But they fit nicely if I sold wheels I would wanna remove and keep tires as I only got 200 miles on them. I have a really clean set of turbo twist 18 as well for sale. I like both wheels equally so either one sells Ill keep the other and put the money towards a paint job.
I love mine! They came with the car from the PO but I disassembled them entirely and had the hoops and center powdercoated while I painstakingly cleaned the PO's rattle can paint off the titanium M7x1 screws. Good luck finding a set. Even if they need restoration it's a fun easy project.
Thanks
@Michael Sjerven
. I ended up finding a set in California. Yes, that is a great price considering the exchange. I wonder how shipping across the border would be? It it's anything like what I have been dealing with for work, then it would take quite some time!
I run 15mm spacers front and rear with a 225 front 265 rear. I run A LOT of camber so I could go out even further. I look the look on the car, much better than my MY02s.
Hey all, I ended up purchasing the wheels from
@bantamben
(thank you!). With my car being silver, I wanted a little more contrast and decided to go gold with a vehicle matching silver lip. I handed off the wheels to a local vendor in Portland (Factory Wheel Outlet). Needless to say, they took my picture and the idea I had and ran with it. They turned out great! I ended up also getting the seat belts changed to gold to break up the silver as well and harking to the GT3. Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Scott
Those wheels are relatively heavy, difficult to clean and the brushed/polished rim edge tends to corrode under the clear coat.
I sold my set and replaced with MY02 wheels in 8 & 10" widths. I was so happy when they were gone.
Best offer I had for the set was $750 however sold individually they bought more than twice that.
I sold a set of these a few years back for 800.00 great looking wheel. Heavy yes, too small, spacers needed. I had 5 different sets for my 996 and had to start selling. I'll be selling my 996 Carrera lightweight five spokes soon. The wheel addictions must end!
The keeper set is 6GT3 polished. Best fit and period correct for my 2004 996.
Good luck. They do appear now and then.
I just bought a set going to get them rebuilt and powder coat in liquid silver with polished lips and have the whole ceramic coated
should take care of most corrosion
Mike
Those look awesome.
I kinda wish I hadn’t gotten rid of mine.
I just didn’t have room when I got my OZ Alleggerita wheels.
I only have room to store one set of spare wheels in the garage and I had 1 1/2 sets just setting in the backyard.
The Carrera IIs got to stay.
