I saw one post of a guy who repaired his turn signal assembly but all the work of drilling, riveting, assembly, and the delicate repair itself to a plastic nub might be better to spend the $400 or so and get a new one.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I figured I could keep my list of issues identified, so far, for my 996 that I'm featuring on my channel. I'll give a shout out to anyone that helps me diagnose or resolves the issue. In no particular order: HVAC doesn't blow cold ( @TexSquirrel mentioned something about foam clogging something up) Steering doesn't lock when key is removed (try loosening/torqueing your lug nuts with this issue) Turn signals don't reset (making a left turn around the world) Driver sun visor damaged (removed) Steering wheel needs replacement (it's disgusting) Dash airbag cover is not attached (passenger) Passenger seat not fully attached (rusted) Driver's seat doesn't slide on rails (rusted) Water damaged carpet Immobilizer is out of sync, car doesn't unlock/lock with key but alarm partially works (attempted to resync using the key in lock steps, nothing and flashes lights minutes later) Driver seatbelt tensioner needs replacement Rusty seatbelts in back Headlight switch is malfunctioning Front bumper liner needs either a replacement or respray/repair Ding in driver's door Passenger door doesn't open from outside Radio face is melted Center console needs repainting or replacement Windshield cracked (breaking off the rear view mirror) Wipers don't work (fuses checked out. no issue) Convertible top doesn't work. (replaced the front latch, clamshell now makes noise but rams are leaking) Front suspension is trashed (knocking sounds) Airbag B05 code Engine P0455 Tank Vent system leak Emergency roll bars malfunctioning (Durametric doesn't even detect the control module, but it's there obviously) Missing window trim/weather stripping between front and rear windows Any updates will be here. Let me know your feedback on some of these. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

1) Google "Porsche 996 where did this foam come from" and you'll find lots of threads about the 996 foam issue. There are at least two good threads showing how to fix both flaps. 13) Headlight switch is easy to replace. I have a good used spare you can have. (I replaced mine and it turned out to not be the culprit)

POST 3Original post

POST 4Original post

Man your c2 cabrio has more issues than mine did. Im shocked. 1. My foam is deteriorating as well but AC just needed charging. Pressure was super low. Getting it up to 45psi (90 degrees out) qnd it is blowing cold now. Make sure to use refrigerant with some oil in it. Pelican has a great ac charging guide. Make sure to use AC often so additives can fix any minor leaks from seals drying out from non-use. Im going to recheck pressure next week tonsee if i have a leak 7-10 and anything with rust tell me your interior drain area and possibly exterior drain holes (2 in front near battery tray and 2 in conv top area close to engine compartment) are clogged and/or not having corrugated tubes routed correctly. Behind rear speakers is the interior drain area. Remove rear tires and mud guard, remove little rubber shield piece and hose out those drain exits really good. Next trace the corrugated plastic tube behind rear speakers to drain exit and make sure they are attached your immobilizer is probably wet still or has corrosion issues. Remove it from under front drivers side and clean with electrical cleaner and cuetips. Look for any shorted components as well. Should be easy to replace by soldering if bad components. The board is huge and components spaced out. I put mine in a water proof case so i dont have to deal with it again. Your carpet may also still be wet underneath as well 16. Putting in continental unit that has bt and looks stock. $160ish 21. When conv cylinders were out for rebuild clam wouldnt move automatically so first step is rebuild of cylinders and getting them back in. I still have one issue because plastic piece on latch cracked/broke and waiting on part

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17449948

I've cleaned out the drains but haven't water tested it yet due the the convertible top not working. I'm going to try to at least lock it back in place so I can hose down the body and wash it. I'll need to plug it into a 9v battery to get it to actuate. I couldn't find anyone selling the latch. a 3d printer could probably make one. I ended up buying a used one from someone here on RL. That's when the rams started spewing fluid.

POST 6Original post

Quotes source post: 17450018

Im going to 3d scan the plastic latch cover so i can 3d print it in the future. Was like $10 on pelican. Ill submit it to thingiverse you should be able to test interior drains wit a water bottle. Just dump into the little open tray and see if it comes out quickly at back wheel

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Oh i did that and it is draining but given the circumstances regarding the amount of water I found in the car makes me hesitant to turn on the hose just yet. Just being cautious. I'm going to update the list to include needing window trim between front and back windows. That's a pretty big opening for water to get in.

Dang! I might have spent 350 for no reason now. Oh well I'll just rebuild the one I took out and sell it.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The seat rails are completely rust fused so I can't slide it enough out of the way to get to the bolts. I'm thinking I'm going to have to use a sawzall or cutter of some type. The bolts in question are the rear ones and it's very snug. Any suggestions on how to cut them out?

POST 12Original post

If you are getting new seat rails just use a grinder and a small metal cutting wheel. It'll be a lot easier to control than a sawzall as long as you can get to it. possibly some chemical rust remover and a wire brush could get rid of enough rust to slide it possibly? Not sure how bad it is but sounds pretty rough from your description

POST 13Original post

I wonder if my torx wrenches can get to the bolts. I have: Amazon Amazon and: Amazon Amazon Want to give them a try? It sure would beat cutting the rails and heads off.

POST 14Original post

So you are featuring a car on you channel that you can't fix and asking others to help so you can make money?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17452211

Bruce, unfortunately they're female torx bolt heads. @Imo000 How am I making money on this exactly? And what's wrong with asking the community? I'm almost certain that there's someone on this forum that has come across some of the issues I'm dealing with before. Should I just ignore their advice and figure it out on my own? I prefer to work smarter not harder.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 17452336

You rally don't know how to make money on this? Nothing wrong asking he community AFTER you did a search, read up on all the problems and the solutions for them. Posting a laundry list of problems without much reading up is just a waste of everyone but your time. There is plenty of information on Rennlist and even more on other forums that will narrow down your list. Posting a giant list comes across as being lazy and expecting others to do your work.

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 17452575

Ah now I understand. You don't know what you're talking about, got it. Lazy I am not. I know how to work a forum and search for my information. If I feel like posting a definitive list of my issues then it's my prerogative. I feel like someone could benefit from a one-stop-shop to compare what I'm experiencing to what they're experiencing. You don't agree, too bad. Besides, you're adding ZERO value to this conversation other than meeting the troll quota for the day. So sorry if I offended you, please don't report me to the forum police. Moving on... Bruce, I'll PM you on the light switch and other items.

I get where both of you are coming from, but if it bothers you that much, just don't engage in the thread. I don't engage in the oil starvation thread because nothing I could say would be relevant to OP or the thread. I give the guy props. He's taking the time to make videos, figuring out how to fix things many wouldn't care to take on, albeit with the assistance from others that are willing (good community), and the world keeps turning. Now if he started making threads and videos asking questions about which oil to use or what degree incline is best to cold start and warm up on might be a different issue. Painting is a very easy and kind of enjoyable job. There's different brands that have the same soft touch color (can't remember your interior), LVP is what I used. The physical end product makes the interior feel much better, and such a simple change. If yours is a manual you could sneak an SSK or 997 shifter in there while you're at it.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I got the seats loose! Passenger side is pretty bad though. rear inner bolt has broken free taking some of the metal floor board with it. Looks like I'll be taking the Porsche to a fabricator to weld up a plate to replace the rusted out part. Driver side now slides on the rails no problem. Now to remove them and assess the damage.
