This is not a probability of success.

Just reset the cam timing to eliminate a deviation that I have had since the fix.

As this will be a one time usage of the bearing tools and I wold like to avoid the price of a brand new set I am looking to buy, borrow or rent a set.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am planning on replacing the IMS bearing on my car in the next week or so. I am going to do a combination of a dual row ceramic bearing and the Direct Oil Feed bearing flange from Tuners Motor Sports. As this will be a one time usage of the bearing tools and I wold like to avoid the price of a brand new set I am looking to buy, borrow or rent a set. If anyone has a set and can work with me I would appreciate it.
I am not going to mention the name because the member does not want to be inundated with requests, but a member did reach out to me and offer the loan of his tools. He knows who he is and I want to extend my thanks.
Over the years I have reached out and helped many members with cracked heads, timing problems, manuals, etc. Kind of a pay it forward, and now I am the beneficiary of help from another member. This forum can be of great assistance to all of us owners.
On an on-going basis if I can be of help to others here feel free to contact me.
And I will post on my experience with the new Direct Oil Feed system.
Nice. Doug, you are over 15k on that intermix repair - correct?
Keep us posted on the DF setup. Are you going to completely expose the bearing? (No seal on either side)
Over 30,000 miles since the intermix/fix. Just reset the cam timing to eliminate a deviation that I have had since the fix.
The DOF and ceramic bearing are supposed to be here Thursday. I have most of the misc other parts already. Hopefully I will be back on the road next week.
I will post on the results.
Hello,
Does anyone have a used IMS Bearing removal/installation tool available for sale? I need to replace the IMS bearing on my 2001 996 Carrera Cabriolet.
Thank you!
