Without a pressure tester, you may ba able to run the cold engine for a minute or two and check for any leak.
Leading evidence: 'Check any leak' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check any leak' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Can you use an inpsection mirror to check its connection to the cooler?

Top off the tank with distilled water and use a pressure tester (Stant ~$75) to pressurize the tank and then check where the coolant is leaking from.

Managed to change the AOS and coolant hose to the oil cooler in less than three hours from starting to work on the car.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was coming back home late at night in my 99 when I see the temp light flashing. It caught my attention, but didn't worry me since the temp stayed at 190. I have a small coolant leak at my tank so I thought it might be low on coolant or the temp sensor might have fallen on the motor again. I was 20 minutes away from my house mostly interstate on a cool night temp stayed 190 all the way home. When I pulled in the garage I immediately opened the bonnet and saw coolant cooking in the top side of intake on the passenger side by the engine temp sensor then moments later two puddles of coolant began to form one right in back of the motor where motor and trans meet and the other right next to it on the passenger side. It's one in the morning and the motor is hot so I haven't been able to investigate too much til the morning when I get chance to jack up the rear. I am really hoping this just a busted coolant hose and nothing major. Any Ideas on what it could be ?
Top off the tank with distilled water and use a pressure tester (Stant ~$75) to pressurize the tank and then check where the coolant is leaking from.
Without a pressure tester, you may ba able to run the cold engine for a minute or two and check for any leak. If none found, you will need a pressure tester.
Couple of things. This for other owners. Whenever you see the coolant light flashing that's a sign of cooling system trouble. As soon as you can do so safely stop the car and shut off the engine. Coolant is an engine critical fluid as much so as is oil.
With the coolant leaking the coolant is not flowing through the engine. The coolant temperature sensor doesn't get bathed in coolant and the temperature remains near normal. But the engine is very likely suffering from at least localized overheating. This is not good.
My WAG is the coolant tank has gone but the leak could be from a number of other sources.
Obviously you'll have to identify where the leak is and fix it and then of course properly refill the cooling system with coolant.
I have a small leak at the tank I am monitoring it. The leak is somewhere at the top right rear of the motor. I rented a pressure tester, but it doesn't fit. Anyone know which brand does. I have the car jacked up still can't find the leak. I currently topped the tank off and have the car idling see if I can find it.
Ok I found the area of the leak it's right above the oil cooler. Once I got the car to warm up it started leaking again. Wow what a leak I was only able to see a steady stream shooting out the top of the oil cooler area. Does the oil cooler have coolant going through it or coolant hoses running through the top of it ?
Yes, thanks I found it by doing a search. I'm still not sure if it is the hose or the cooler either way I still got to take a bite out of that &$#? sandwich and take the intake off to get back there. Gonna try and get to it today to see what I need to order for parts.
On my '03 I can see that hose connection if I peek right in between the oil filler tube and the power steering pump. Give it a try. Yours should be similar. You probably needsto remove at least the throttle body and may be even the intake plenum right behind it to gain access.
The hose is a breather hose that connects the oil cooler to the coolant reservoir.
For the Stant tester you need 12016 for testing the tank and 12017 for testing the cap. You can ask the tool rental place if they have the adaptor for vw/audi/porsche. They use the same adaptor.

That's interesting. I just opened the engine lid and shone a flashlight between the oil filler tube and the power steering pump and there it is. No need to lower the engine.
I guess you mean working under the car on the passenger side trying to see the connection from there?
So I finally changed out the hose that was leaking. Changing the AOS, coolant tank and 4-6 chain tensioner while I'm already there. Managed to change the AOS and coolant hose to the oil cooler in less than three hours from starting to work on the car.
