Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I much prefer this to the occasional flashing indication that the oil is far too low when I know the car is filled correctly...

I learned very early on how to use the digital oil level system to get reliable and repeatable readings.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Happened today when I pulled it out of the garage for a wash....started it up to pull her back into the garage and the clock started counting down from 30 minutes! Thoughts?

POST 2Original post

While the engine was running? If off and not warmed up how long should the cold oil take to drain through the cold engine to the sump?

POST 3Original post

Quotes source post: 12342050

That can be normal if the cold engine was started but not run very long. Under some conditions the time can be nearly to 59:59 in my Boxster. Since I know that unless the engine was fully up to temperature before being shut off that the countdown timer is going to require at least more than 5 seconds count down time I don't bother to wait and I seldom bother to note the amount of time if it is not just 5 seconds.

POST 5Original post

FPB and Macster are correct - if the oil is cold (and probably other combinations of factors as well), the car calculates that it will take longer to produce an accurate reading. I much prefer this to the occasional flashing indication that the oil is far too low when I know the car is filled correctly...

POST 6Original post

That's why I love a good old fashioned dip stick Was it 2005/2006 when they went to electronic oil level readings? My dad has an 07 Targa 4S and no dipstick But yes, I have experienced the same as you.

Apparently I'm in the minority for I really like the digital oil level setup and even in my Boxster with a dipstick I never use it. I learned very early on how to use the digital oil level system to get reliable and repeatable readings. I very quickly adapted to my Turbo which not only requires the oil be hot but the engine running at idle and the car rather level. The Turbo has no engine oil dipstick. Yet I can check the oil level at a stop light if I want once the engine is up to temperature. Do that with your dipstick!

POST 9Original post

The engine has to be warm, or the car has been sitting for an hour or so.
