Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Fortunately I had routed the front emergency release cable to where it was easily accessible when I changed changed my front bumper cover last year...easy peasy! I was very relieved that it worked so easily.
Outcome qualification: Negation, uncertainty or missing explicit repair resolution overrides the raw extraction signal.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Dropped my wife at the airport this morning and couldn't unload her small carry-on bag because the trunk acts as if there is a lock on the release lever. It won't budge even with me pushing down on the lid while she tried to pull the release. It's a '99 so it's mechanical and should be simple. She's not real happy flying away without her essentials and I'm stumped. Any help will be much appreciated , Bob
I got it open! Too late, she is in the air and still mad. I locked and unlocked the car with the key in the door and now the trunk opens. How did it lock itself this morning after I unlocked the car manually, opened the trunk, dropped in her bag, closed the lid and drove directly to the airport. I didn't even know that the car had central locking that locked the trunk.
I was slow diagnosing the problem! In weak defense, I bought the car in July and haven't driven it much so am unfamiliar. I've never encountered a locked trunk release. I see the need, how do I duplicate this condition where the doors are unlocked but the trunk lever is locked? Bob
I have this issue happen all the time when the car gets hot. I rerouted my manual release to behind the marker light, so I can easily unlatch the thing by just pulling off the light and putting it back on.

I had this happen to me about a week ago. I had been having a single beep when locking the car (which turned out to be I hadn't latched the engine cover all the way - I just sort of drop it to close, and had assumed it latched) and the central locking button light was on. Right before I figured out what the beep thing was, I tried to open the frunk, and the lever wouldn't budge... Uh oh! Fortunately I had routed the front emergency release cable to where it was easily accessible when I changed changed my front bumper cover last year...easy peasy! I was very relieved that it worked so easily. I highly recommend this for everyone who's got one of these cars! Oh yeah, make sure your engine cover is latched as well...
I noticed on my 02 that if I unlock the car manually as soon as I put the key in the ignition the central lock light will activate and doors lock. I assume the frunk and rear lid lock as well. I press the central lock button to the off position. Or, with the key out of the ignition press the unlock button on the key fob. That should de-activate the central lock.
So is this a random bad condition, where the doors are unlocked but the trunk is locked? Or, is it possible to duplicate this condition so say a valet parking guy could park your car but not access the trunk? I lock and unlock only by turning the key in the door as no remote functions work.
The problem here is when you are manually unlocking the door with the key, you can turn the lock far enough to mechanically unlock the door, but it takes a little farther to hit the electrical switch that will electrically unlock the frunk and other things.
This happens unknowingly most of the time, and isn't noticed except under certain circumstances.
Using the key fob electrically unlocks the drivers door and other stuff like frunk levers.
