Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Very entertaining! Like they say, half the value is in the engine/transmission (or maybe more than half), so you've got that going for you.
I sub'd. Along with "Man in a Garage" I'm looking forward to learning a thing or two (not that I'll ever need it)
Thanks for watching. I totally agree. Hopefully I wont have to cut bait on this car. The engine checked out so Ill be moving forward with the restore. I see potential.

I like your video
When you were sorting through the items in the frunk.
That yellow package containing gloves.
That might be the factory issued gloves for the owner to use to change a tire.
My 996.2 still has the original set, they look similar
Good luck with your project

Great video! I have bought many cars like this and the satisfaction is priceless (after a lot of cleaning and repairing.) I have a 2002 C4S withe the gray interior. It was pretty dirty too. Replaced a handful of interior parts and it is very nice now. I have a box of old interior parts. Let me see what Jin have and I'll post a pic. Good luck!
I just watched the video, you're going to have fun cleaning this one up. I had a lot of sprucing up to do with my 2002 high mileage cab, not to the extent you do - but still some of the same projects from a previous owner that didn't care about cosmetics or fixing the "little things". Hit me up for questions about small interior projects if you're looking for help. By the way -

and places like it are going to be your best friend. If you check back frequently and know a few tricks you can save a ton of money. Ex: I needed to replace my shabby e-brake handle just for appearance. They had tons of them listed for both Boxsters and 911s. Same part number but I got an entire e-brake assembly from a 35,000 mile Boxster for like $45. Carrera listed ones were going for $70-$80. Either way, shaving 70-80k miles of wear and tear off did wonders for very little money.
Projects I have undertaken since buying mine in July of 2020. Even with online instructions I learned something from all of them. I'd be glad to pass on any fresh (well, 1 - 9 month old) knowledge from my resto projects.
- Installed short shifter
- Air filter and oil change
- Sourced a second key and fob (get your wallet out)
- Restored half burnt out HVAC LED (Pelican Parts DIY kit)
- Replaced shift **** and boot (eBay ultra low mileage junkyard takeoff - Saved $150 over new)
- Gutted factory cell phone, replaced with non-phone OEM trim panels from PartsSociety
- Refinished console and horseshoe trim using Rennlister DIY spray can instructions
- Swapped out stupid CD holder for an additional OEM cubby
- Swapped out armrest cover to remedy what looked like a bobcat attack (low mileage eBay piece - $45)
- Swapped e-brake handle - see above
- replaced passenger window regulator
- Restored Sport Design II wheels with the help of a powdercoater
- Restored convertible top hydraulics and some linkage issues (I posted in your other thread)
- Complete home DIY interior and exterior detail. Nothing special but looks 5x better than when I got it.
I have just started sorting out and improving the interior on my can as well.
Mine has the burl wood interior and it has been tough to find second hand pieces in the light wood to replace some of the pieces. OEM is just too expensive. The pieces that goes on top of the dash is near impossible to find but what I did find did not match so I had them aquadipped to match and it is really close. I picked up that tip from Wheeler Dealers.
I am doing a partial repholster of the seats. My seats have the Porsche logo embossed on the headrest, they came like that from the factory. The upholstery companies I talked to said they can’t do that but could stick something in, I don’t like that look. So to preserve the embossing I am only having the center part of the seats done and having the sides restored.
Just a general question. Does every 996 from the first few years come with a dark gray center console (the one between the seats)? I had assumed mine was in wood but it started to de laminate and the previous owner just removed it and left it without the wood. But as I have seen folks paint or redo those consoles they all seem to have that dark gray look.
Wow thanks all for the tips. I'm definitely going to check out the partssociety website and will be sure to post what I need here before buying anything. As you can tell from the video the interior is shot. I wish I could just strip it down to the bare metal and replace EVERYTHING it's so nasty in there. Perhaps a good steaming will make me think otherwise.
My list of issues is getting longer and longer for this 911.
Suspension, sounds like a little dude is hammering away down there.
Convertible top won't operate, clicks but nothing.
Roll-over bars at least partially extended
head lights are wonky, sometimes on, sometimes one light is on.
Steering lock is not working so the car is steerable even when the key is not inserted. Try changing a tire
turn signals don't automatically turn off when turning
HVAC doesn't blow cold
rear windows won't go up. Someone told me there's a magic place to press on near the lock, above the rear mirror, that will complete the circuit so I can raise them.
So lots of projects for Yogi's Garage!
Lol...I just saw your location description..I missed out meeting you guys on Sunday.
A friend of mine moved to Houston from MI years ago due to a company promotion. Well, he brought his wife down in late March to check it out. You know our weather in March is great and the blue bonnets are out, a perfect day/month by Chamber of Commerce standards. But then they moved down in August and she cried out, “What have you done!?!?! You moved our family to hell, it is so hot”.
FLT, thanks for that site. I also need to tackle my hydraulic cylinders too.
LOL, I ask myself that question every summer and I've lived here since 1995. We all definitely need to meet up. I'd love to see what other locals are up to and perhaps interview them for the channel.
You make great videos man, wish I had your editing skills.... or the patience to learn them...
YT is a funny place... my channel kind of took off initially and over the last month or so has dropped like a rock, people are telling me something to do with algorithms... I don't know, the regular viewers and commenters are really fun to engage with, so I don't really care about numbers... just interesting the seemingly random movements.
I hope yours gets the views (LOTS) it deserves and look forward to following the build !
Thanks gents. Appreciate the kudos. Yes, it's a lot of work. I would surmise that it takes between 12 - 20 hours of my time to edit a 25-30 minute video. I like to tell a story and to make sure that each segment compliments the next. Wait until you see my interview/visit with
@TexSquirrel
. I hope to do him proud.
I take it that's not a photo of Menomonee falls WI in that photo? Was there in the fall a few years ago for a class at either Briggs and Stratton or Kohler, I forget. Curse you people, I'm hopelessly addicted to cheese curds. Nice area. First time in the Great Lakes, we drove over from NH. Like to do that again. Like to try new food and really like trying different beers.
Yogi,
Here's the "magic button". It is up in the hole where the hook engages. Even if the hook is fully engaged you can stick your pinky up in there and feel the microswitch click. Sometimes when my top goes all the way up and latches, the hook still doesn't protrude enough to actuate the switch. I just stick my pinky in there, raise the windows, and the light goes out signaling the top up cycle is complete. You can even press the switch with your finger when the top is totally down to raise the rear quarter windows if you want.
Great stuff!
Many call these cars smile machines. And sure enough, in the video, you are smiling! Even knowing how much work you need to do. I'm smiling watching you smile because I know how fun these cars are! I'm looking forward to the story, thanks!
oh, and check the rear drains. it's quite common for these to clog. the water will drop into the little well under the back seat and then down onto the floor...
