Also, with a full tank of gas I swear things run more smoothly (which may be related to the fuel pump) - I could just be imagining this though...

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Odd situation with my 996 Targa (2003). Haven't had any major issues with the engine since I purchased the car three years ago. However, a few weeks go I parked (nose downward) on a steep hill in SF. After it had been sitting for a few hours, I turned it over and it started fine and ran for about 2 minutes, then stalled. This was not due to anything I had done (i.e., I didn't stall it) ... it simply stopped as if the engine had run out of gas (presumably it had). I had to pull over on said hill near a flat location and crank for about 10 'ish seconds to get it started again. Everything was ok afterwards. Potentially related are two items: 1) I swear that the car can be sluggish on the freeway - almost like it's skipping but I just had the plugs and coils done 800 miles ago or so, and 2) there seems to be a small leak at the back of the engine, upper right - above the right bank of cylinders. I have no idea what's up there though. Any thoughts? Fuel pump / fuel filter?

POST 2Original post

Fuel pump and or the pick up tube on the sender would be the first place i would start. U can get a guage and monitor it but if its intermitant it may be hard to catch.

Small leak of what, oil?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Sorry I should have specified - small leak of oil. Also, with a full tank of gas I swear things run more smoothly (which may be related to the fuel pump) - I could just be imagining this though...

POST 5Original post

Does fuel pressure a monitor output that Durametric can log? If yes, you can hook it up to a laptop and drive around and if/when the issue arises, check the logs. You can log other items at the same time in case its not a fuel issue. You might also get to see some codes at that time.

POST 6Original post

Pull the pump and inspect the submersable tube. Its a know issue that it cracks or falls off. It will take 10 min.
