Hi, just bought a 2001 Cabriolet with 30K miles. I can not get the steering wheels to move towards me. I released the level, pulling it down. Any advice? This is my 9th Porsche and probably my last... Cheers Tim

In 9x6 it doesn't adjust for reach, only up/down. 9x7 onwards had adjustable reach and up/down. Edit: see correction by Deserion below

I have owned my 99 996 for 18 years,,,,when I bought it in 2007 ( it was 8 years old) the column was stuck... As I was dissembling it to fix it it freed up... There is a stack of sliding plates with every other one attached to either the upper or lower part of the column...the lever clamps them together so they can't slide.....on mine the plates had stuck together ( rusted?) and wouldn't slide untill i partially dissembled it or jarred it loose while working on it....It's been sliding ever since...I never fully dissembled it ...
