Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Problem is the range was like 6 from the door to get it to work.
Leading evidence: 'range was like 6' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'range was like 6' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace batteries' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I quickly ordered a Design 911 key and swapped the internals and everything worked perfectly.

I did repair this wire but havent tested the plug end.

Then I went replace the battery on the old remote and all went to heck.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Seeking advice for a key problem.
DISCLAIMER: OF COURSE I CHANGED THE BATTERIES. SEVERAL TIMES, WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT BRANDS
TLDR: anyone have a solution to extremely short range on the key fob?
Sorry for the long read but I am hoping someone has had the same issue and can help.
I when I bought my 04 TT, it came with two keys. They both worked well but were in so-so shape.
I quickly ordered a Design 911 key and swapped the internals and everything worked perfectly. Then I went replace the battery on the old remote and all went to heck.
I wound up frying the electronics, so I ordered an OEM key from the dealer.
In the meantime, my working remote became real finicky. Didnt always work and when it did, I had to be right on top of the car. Sometimes the key would open the doors but not the frunk.
I finally took the new key to the dealer (after a locksmith failed to program it) for programming. They told me they couldnt get it programmed and needed the car longer to diagnose. I chose not to leave it.
When I got home, the new key worked. Both now worked. Problem is the range was like 6 from the door to get it to work. Now neither open the drunk and work intermittently on the doors.
I am wondering if there is some sort of interference going on. The car is at a local shop and they are hoping to investigate tomorrow but was hoping someone might have some advice.
There are only two things that have changed in the electronics during this and they may be worth mentioning.
1) i have the targa button/garage door opener hack installed. It was already in the car and NOT affecting the key. However it was a 20 year old remot and didnt work with my garage door so I upgraded it and its hidden behind the horseshoe. Wondering if that could be it. Its not sending a signal otherwise the door would open and close. Just thought it was worth mentioning. Shop is going to try disconnecting it.
2) there was a loose fuse in the box that had two wire attached to it. One of the wires was broken. I assume its for the ethernet wire that is behind my mirror. Assuming PO had a radar detector mounted up there. I did repair this wire but havent tested the plug end.
I dont think either of these are the issue but, again, worth mentioning.
Anyone out there experiencing the same intermittent key function and/or terrible range?
Sorry again for the length and thanks for reading.
Before proceeding take the white cable out of this foam shielding and try, before cutting. It seems that 130 mm are for US spec cars. There might be a difference between .1 ans .2 cars also, so be careful.
