Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Higher mileage convertible. Engine deck lid does not lacthed closed. Seller says thats the reason that top doesnt go down. Is this an easy not to expensive issue to solve??? Advice ideas will be appreciated.

POST 2Original post

I just had the cab top hydraulic cylinders replaced on my 2004 996. The cost was about $1,200 with work done at my Porsche Indy in Ft. Myers, FL. Included the rebuilt cylinder kit from: https://cabriolethydraulics.com /X3

POST 3Original post

If the engine lid is not latched the top won't work because the car "thinks" the engine lid is open. There are some slight adjustments you can make to the engine lid latch, or is there some other thing wrong with the latch? Shoot some white lithium grease on the latch. In the end, you may have to spring for a new latch. There is a microswitch inside the latch that tells the car whether the engine lid is open or closed.

POST 4Original post

Assuming that the deck lid is the only problem, it could be simple to solve. Convertible top problems can get complex and expensive. Or not. I'd suggest you actually need to solve the problem if this is part of a sale.

POST 5Original post

I would be wary of believing that is the "only reason." I see vehicles purchased from Craigslist where the seller told the buyer that the AC "only needs a recharge." The buyer recharges(or has it recharged somewhere else) and the AC still doesn't work. Then they get quotes $1xxx-$2xxx to have the AC repaired and they get referred to the Car Care Ministry. Usually what I find is the AC " only" needs a recharge AFTER I replace the compressor, condenser, expansion valve, receiver dryer, and all of the o-rings. I can usually do that for $200-$250. If the top is easy to repair, make the seller get it done. Cabriolet issues can be a nightmare...didn't someone just say that in text recently?
