Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Interestly enough most used ones I looked at had the IMS service prior to sale.
Leading evidence: 'Use ones i looked at had the ims service prior' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean things out etc' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Since the purchase I've made some of the recommended updates, magnetic drain plug, cleaning things out etc.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My new to me 99 C2. 51K miles, 6sp, 4/98 Build date. Almost an option less car per my search criteria.
It does have the all important 220 code. Not 100% on where I will go with this one. Im tempted to head back to a spec series but we'll see. For now I'll try and find as many drives as possible despite heading into the winter.
PPI results where mostly cosmetic. Needs a small paintless dent removal repair to the front left wing, garage incident. Could use a much better detail. PO had the car for 12 years as a weekend and fair weather ride. Interior is near a 10 aside from some scuffs on the truck release from entry/exit and the 99 issue of the door handle release silver wearing off. carpet , passenger compartments, dash, original radio etc. all in exceptional condition. Some minor stone chips out front.
Biggest pro was a 6K receipt for the last service, LN IMS installed, was a recommendation from the service shop due to the clutch service, full clutch w flywheel, battery, and a host of small fix it parts under the hood. Coil, hoses, gaskets, etc. All pretty much to get it to spec per the miles. Has tons of cosmoline (Spelling??) still intact underneath, rockers, wheel lips etc which is nice to see. The front bumper was a cosmetic respray for stone chips that could have been better IMO. Would maybe consider a turbo bumper cover if it ever came my way. I was a silent partner in a body shop at one point so my eye may be a bit more critical.
I have thoughts of an RS inspired interior, not sure where that will go. A nice Alcantera GT3 steering wheel may look nice.
I already have some recaro SRD's, maybe a console delete?? I'm sure someone has done something similar so I'll look around. Looks at home in the garage and the color combo is what I wanted. That along with the service history and great price made this one a good deal for me.
Enjoying the 996 forum!
Congratulations, so I'm guessing you're the third owner, you found a car with low miles for a 99, with maintenance records, the hard part is done, the upgrades come second, you know what it is to have a Porsche in the past on top of everything, so welcome to the 996 forum
Thanks. Yes lucky number 3. One to 31k 2nd from 31 to
51k. PO use was not that frequent which was a concern.
I was trying to find the best of both worlds. Use vs miles vs care.
Its tough to not overlook that an unused car can be an issue, just like a high mileage car.
I passed on a C4s, was nice but well worn for 62k miles. Similar set up, not many options.
POs hailed from the city (near me) which can rattle the hell out of anycar.
Interestly enough most used ones I looked at had the IMS service prior to sale.
I guess this may be a good thing for buyers on the used 996 market.
Yes, only one wife! The car exchange keeps me sane. Its a vice plain and simple. Started around 5 years old with hotwheels (of which I still have, yes Im one of those guys), progressing into buying copies of DuPont registry, then excellence well before I had a licence.
Give or take I've owned about 50 cars. My most prized and missed one (see below). Although the current owned found me and keeps in touch. However I'd likely have to cough up about 80K to get it back. Half of what it was sold for more
Very cool! I was always a car guy, but only a one car at a time guy, meaning it was my daily driver. It all changed when I got divorced, started modifying my 1997 Audi A8, man, was that a cool car when I got done with it! Then I got an 01 S8, then an 07 S8 (which I still have), then I bought a 73 Alfa Romeo Spider (have that), figured out a needed a car with a roof, bought the 968 (which I just sold), found an incredible 87 944 turbo this summer, bought it, then figured I wanted a 911, sold the 968 and bought the 996.
I figure I have about 25 years left of driving cool cars, so if I change it one out every two years I have 12 or 13 more cars to go!
;-)
And my current wife is cool with all of this. Actually my ex-wife drives in most of my cars because my son borrows them when he is home from college and will bring her out to dinner in them. That's cool with me! The more people that can enjoy them, the better.
looks a lot like the '99 C2 I just bought, granted with double the miles and hopefully for less money!
Congrats - looks like a nice pick-up. Like you the clincher in my decision was a recent clutch and LN IMSB. This is my first Porsche, but I am a certifiable car flipper myself.
I don't have a count but I hope it is less than 50, although not by much. Been doing that for 30 years. Actually maybe it is close to 50... No matter!
5 in the current line-up with 4 drivers, although 1 only part time since she is away in college and another that will soon be in the same boat.
My two fun cars are a 2003 M5 and the '99 C2.
Here is what the Lobster forks look like for reference:
my first mod!
After a few weeks of ownership:
ECS drainplug and oil change, purchased an extra belt, new cabin filter
Picked up an air filter from a renn memeber that didnt need it at a nice discount.
New wheels and tires coming on Sat. So far I'll keep the originals.
Had a nice conversation with the second owner, called to see how his car was!
He had it for 11+ years. Hes driving a new targa now.
Got a great deal on a car cover from rennlist memeber, saved over 100.00
Driving impressions; yes I can get the tail out
Super comfortable after several 45-60min trips. Great powerband. Climate control is nice, but as I rememeber from the boxster I tend to have to fiddle with it often. Saw a pic of a 996 with manual *****! Would love to have that.
Next, remove the microphone from PO in car cell phone, search for GT3 console delete.
All this for a car in the teens? So far so good; will start looking for another before the price spikes! Wishful thinking, but we shall see.
Sadly I've only been able to clock about 900 miles since the purchase of my 996 in December. Its a pleasure to drive and I'm enjoying it thus far. Its certainly the most refined Porsche I've had next to a Boxster I had for about a year as a DD. I have no daily driver as a train commuter so the weekends are my only time to get out and drive.
Since the purchase I've made some of the recommended updates, magnetic drain plug, cleaning things out etc. Most recently I had the mufflers modified (a major improvement), new tires, wheels, GT3 brake cooling scoops, a three spoke steering wheel, and a conversion from lugs to studs. Planned improvements are a few door dings to be removed and koni suspension. Its not on the top of the list but a respray on the front bumper may happen. It was redone by the PO for stone chips but the color match is not 100%. More evident in photos and certain light levels.
Some recent photos from the weekend while visit my parents.
Here's a picture of my "new-to-me" C4S outside of Missoula last week on the drive home. One of these days I'll start my own thread.
This is the most fun I've had with a car in a long, long time.
