Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Idk, service advisor made it seem like this was the start of the issue and that itd get worse as it ran not something from the start.
Leading evidence: 'Run not something' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run ....how long would you reasonably like the engine' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

All engines are failing/wearing out every moment they are ran....How long would you reasonably like the engine to last ??

As for how long Id like it to run, Im hopping to get a few years out of it before a rebuild wanting to get a car to daily and then rebuild when the funds are more conducive to that.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone! Im looking to purchase an 01 996, its the perfect spec, but mileage is a little high(107,000). I sent it to get a PPI, and these were the results. They said the only concerning cylinder was 4, which I dont think is prone to bore scoring like 5&6. This looks like pitting to me, just trying to figure out if I should think this is a non-issue or if I should walk away.
car is planned to be my daily driver as well.
Hard finding a good 996.1 C4 manual thats not crazy money and has all the right features I want :/
All engines are failing/wearing out every moment they are ran....How long would you reasonably like the engine to last ??
Those pits look to me like they have been there from early on, possibly a surface defect from new, doesn't look to be causing any collateral damage...

Obviously you don't believe the Service Writer or you would not be asking again here...
If I saw that pits on my cylinders today I would just make a note to look at it again in a year or two....
Service writer did say "I don't know much about it, but from my understanding" So I just wanted to get some info from people around here, price is right for the car if it didn't have this issue, so probably also have a large bit of room to haggle on the price if the dealer chooses not to address it. If I can get the car for 10k less than where it's at then I'd just get it fixed right away the correct way.
I gotta imagine that from the perspective of a service advisor there is zero upside minimizing the potential impact. Best thing is to treat it as a worst case scenario. If he downplays potential downside and you buy the car and, for whatever reason, this turns into a big problem then they have an angry customer spreading discontent.
Looks fine, haggle a little on the price if that's all you have.
Get it fixed? $$$ $10k saved would unlikely fix it.
Just leave it until (or if) it actually becomes a problem.
