It was the worst part of selling a 996, that is how every conversation started except for the guy that bought the one I was selling.

RMS, AOS, rear crank seal, T-stat, Plugs, tubes, trans flush, new IMS (unkown type), new clutch (SMFL), cylinder head plugs, and replaced all rubber hoses while I we where in there.

Oil changes every 5K, H&R coilovers with tarrett drop links and OEM top hats, new water pump (noticed a drip, never failed), replaced cracked filler tube, new starter, Fister mod, orange cap mod, 997 shifter, OZ wheels (sold the 5 spokes), 997 RS wing (aftermarket I still have the original deck lid), new brakes and pads, brake flush, battery, and window tint.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey fellow Rennlister's.
I am contemplating putting my car up for sale after Christmas, and am asking what you all think is a realistic range I could get for it. It is a 2003, I am the second owner, and have put roughly 60K miles on it as my daily driver over the past 7 years. Car currently has 94K miles on it and climbing. Extremely reliable, and has never left me stranded. When I bought the car, the very first thing I did was drop it off for a bunch of preventative items. RMS, AOS, rear crank seal, T-stat, Plugs, tubes, trans flush, new IMS (unkown type), new clutch (SMFL), cylinder head plugs, and replaced all rubber hoses while I we where in there. I maintain the car myself, and over the years have done the following. Its a CA car and passes smog easily every time.
Artic silver exterior, manual, full leather black interior. Interior shows well for its age with no significant wear. The exterior is what I believe also good for a daily of its age with 2 noticeable blemishes shown below. There is roughly a 4 scratch in the right rocker near the rear tire, and a ding in the front right bumper. Other than that, some stone chips and general wear. Everything works except the CD changer, and the windows are getting tired. They still work, just slow. I am sure new regulators are in the near future. Clutch pedal squeaks from time to time. Due to Covid, I am possibly working from home indefinitely and am just not driving it enough to enjoy it. Car does burn some oil, and has without change since the day I bought it, roughly a quart every 1500 miles or so.
This is not a for sale add so lots of details (pix) left out. As mentioned above it does have a single mass fly wheel which the majority view as a negative (not looking to start a debate about that here).
So, I am looking to you for a realistic number to expect to get based on your purchasing experience.
thank you
Brian
I like the rear deck and splitter.
If you decide to put it back to stock before selling, let me know.
I’d guesstimate that it will sell for around $20-25k.
Ill give you my perspective as someone who purchased a 996 three months ago and spent the previous 6 searching.
Put your car back to stock before you sell.
Or as close to stock as you can.
As 996s cross into classic territory, buyers are putting a premium on cars that match the build sticker.
Plus the more you personalize a car the harder it is to find a buyer who has the same taste as you.
Just my two cents
^^^Agreed - especially the rear wing/lid. You mentioned burning a little oil (which is about normal for this mileage) - any engine noise(s) ? As is $18 - $23k (if no ticking noises)... Stock or OEM rear lid/wing maybe a little more.
Modified cars usually don't bring a premium.
I agree that modified cars are harder to sell.
Luckily I never plan to sell mine, so I don't worry about originality.
But if I were, I'd put mine back to stock-ish before selling. (I'd probably keep the OEM aerokit pieces on it)
I agree, putting these back to stockish form is going to be the easiest way to sell it. Plus you would probably get more selling the parts individually than if you sold them with the car. Also be prepared for "has the IMS been done" questions. It was the worst part of selling a 996, that is how every conversation started except for the guy that bought the one I was selling.
I did this with my Box S (986). I could only get so much for the car and didn't come close to what I put into it. I pulled everything out that I could (excluding exhaust and lowering springs) and sold the after market stuff separately. I came in less than what I had into it but certainly a lot closer to that number.
BaT seems to pay the best. I would ditch the wing and try that. Maybe mention you have the wing to go with the car or sell separately. I love the wing but others might look at as a) not original and b) a car that was beat on (perception). If you have the original rims, throw those on and sell those.
I like modified cars, I would pay extra but not what it actually cost to do.
I can easily revert the wing. as far as engine noises, there is zero unusual sounds. oil consumptions is exactly as the day I bought it 7 years ago. it is a very solid car.
I am starting the process of reverting back to stock as much as stock as possible. I will be removing rear wing and front lip this weekend weather and time permitting. I am looking to officially list the car in the next few weeks. If anyone here is interested in the car, please feel free to message me. thank you
I love those wheels! And I think it looked better with the aero you added. Sadly, youre probably right to revert it back.
GLWS. I hope you get a good sum for it!
Let me know the mileage and Ill like to see some interior pics. Are those wheels 18?. For anybody else if I buy the car Ill sell the wheels. I like the turbos ones.
I just bought an eBay 996 cab for 15k with a lot of work needed. I would have passed on yours with all those mods. Beautiful car though. I plan on restoring mine and upgrading exhaust and small things like the PCCM. Even when I change the color Ill be wrapping it.
