Looking for recommendations on engine-out maintenance opportunities. Car is a 2004 C4s with 93,000 miles. Original IMS and RMS. I purchased the car a year ago and plan on keeping and enjoying it for many years. It came with a long service history of routine servicing � oil changes, brake flushes, filters, etc., but with the high mileage, in addition to the IMS, RMS and clutch, I want to replace:
IMS (LN Engineering, but on the fence about oil fed solution kit or retro fit kit)
RMS
clutch, bearing, etc. (Clutch was last replaced about 40k miles ago)
Engine mounts
Transmission mount
Plugs
Coil packs
Oil Cooler
AOS
Water pump (still functioning, but seems like an opportunistic change)
Coolant hoses (ease of access w/ engine out)
Coolant tank (not leaking, but seems like an inexpensive item w/ engine out)
Thermostat
Serp belt
Additionally, this is a chance to clean and detail the engine compartment. I have never bore scoped the engine, but it runs very strong, no ticking, no smoke on cold starts, no leaks, bottom of the engine is clean/dry, headers are in good shape, no upgrades have been done � its like it was in 2004, but with 93,000 miles. Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance!
I would leave the oil cooler alone and only replace the gaskets/O rings. Also, everything except the oil cooler that you've listed can be easily done with the engine in the car and the transmission pulled.
I would also purchase the factory coolant tank over the other tanks available and re-use or use the same type of hose clamps. I expect rubber hoses to deteriorate over time, but I often wonder what type of massagist that works in the engineering department designed those tanks, and all of the glorious plastic caps, connectors, and assorted plastic pieces that consistently break, fail to function, and are difficult to replace.
What's your budget $$$, and are you DIY'ing?
Do the IMSS and UAOS then see how much money you got left for "other things" !! (most can be done with engine in)
