That has turned out to be quite stupid on my part, as I had tons of odd bits that after watching Finn would come in quite handy.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
You should check out these series on YouTube called "Man in a Garage". Finn Roche purchased a mk1 996 with a "dead" 3.4L engine.
He is now documenting his exploits from a novice point of view. His videos are really entertaining wrapped with humor and brutal honesty.
I think you'll enjoy watching them. It has all the merits of a British comedy show. hahaha
Hope you all will consider supporting Finn's efforts by becoming a YouTube subscriber of his channel.
Cheers!

I've been enjoying the "Man in a Garage" videos for it's candid down-to-earth approach. And, to make us DIYers feel at home, he uses 2 claw hammers to pry things apart.
Despite the typically British self deprecating style he is obviously an accomplished and experienced engineer. Now that the Bentley book is of little use to him I wonder if he is waiting for a Black Friday sale to buy Jake's M96 rebuilding series of DVDs.
I friended that guy on YouTube. Good dude. His gf/wife and friend in bikinis every now and then doesnt hurt either.
Since I just bought a 996 I immediately binged watched his stuff. I hope to have a similar rebuild series on my channel very soon.
I binged watched some of this yesterday. I love his "from the ground up" explanations. Plus it looks like he's in San Diego too. He's wayyyy more patient than I am!
I've gotten to the point where he's gotten the engine stripped down and is pulling the heads off. Does a good job of explaining things. Made me more confident about removing the engine and transmission from my car.
Just watched the first two episodes, subscribed of course, and love it! My adventures in working on my car have yet to start, but I am going to learn from this guy all I can. Although, I do need an intervention and get him to say POR-SHA!
It's very common for people from the UK to pronounce it with one syllable. However, I think people from other European countries do pronounce it like the family name with two syllables.
Good job, mate!
Seriously, I've found that lots of people here in the south pronounce it one syllable too.... like instead of saying "Corvette", they say "Vette". Same thing. I try to explain that Porsche is a family name and is pronounced with two syllables, but they don't care.
Oh well. hahaha
I watch Man in a Garage, Boost Brothers Garage and 997 Dads rebuild channel. Great watching and learning from these guys, but I'm happy with my decision to have sent my car to Jake for the rebuild.
Ok, work had to take a pause while I caught up with Finn, and I am hooked
. Do give this a try and subscribe, help him get to monetize.
My 1-year plan is to kit out my garage to do oil changes and change coil packs...then start working toward doing the IMS myself. The fact he can do this in such a tiny garage gives me hope. I do know how to work on cars, been doing it my whole life, but it has been old British sportscars and race cars. While the racecars were quite quick and precise to work on, they are simple compared to my '03 C4S. Also, as I moved a couple of years ago, I sold most of my tools with the intent to rebuild my tool chest, so have been working on that as well. That has turned out to be quite stupid on my part, as I had tons of odd bits that after watching Finn would come in quite handy. Not sure why I am telling you this other than I think most of you will understand the journey.
Ya got me there as I do say Vette...hahaha
Man in a Garage, 997 DAD and Home Built By Jeff are my favourites. Sprinkle a little Friends Green Porsche, Jay Read and of course Nick Murray in there too.
It is indeed. I think the biggest takeaway from his videos is I need to clean the garage as I have about three times the space. That is if it wasnt so full of stuff.
Along most of our garage sidewalls we built shelves about 6' 6" high and 18" deep, and front wall same height but 48" deep. So we can walk under and they hold all our model train sets, holiday decorations, camping gear, oil and coolant, etc. Almost everything below those shelves is on wheels so area can be quickly reconfigured for whatever the particular project is. We built wood platforms with casters for workbench and tools like miter saw and purchased low cost dollys to put under cabinets.
