Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Replace those too and it made a big difference' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check date code' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
After repairing the rim and replacing the rear tire it really exposed how hard the front tires were.

The answer to this is that the car is 18 years old and I should replace everything.

If you are running 19s, there's your problem right there.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Still getting used to what's normal and what's not for something that's 18yrs old.
I have a 2003 C2. New to me last fall. As far as I can tell, everything is stock.
Ive done a lot of maintenance and upgrades over the winter and now I am ready to DRIVE!
The trouble is that the rear suspension is extremely rough. Every crack in the pavement causes a new crack in my vertebrae.
I know. The answer to this is that the car is 18 years old and I should replace everything. That is 100% the plan over next winter.
For the summer, I want to take a break from turning wrenches and enjoy the drive.
Looking for advice on what parts of the suspension will give the most bang for the buck in terms of ride comfort. Start with the shocks? Or is some other component a pain point?
Whats RLs advice on getting a compliant ride in the short term before going deep on ball joints and lobster forks in November?
I was riding around some bumpy streets yesterday and contemplating suspension as well. I think that Ill at least get alignment this year to tick off that unknown and revisit the suspension components later with the plan to do mostly stock unless there are some basic modestly priced changes that I might substitute in.
Thats a good one. I do have brand new tires, but youre right. They are at 44 PSI, per Porsche recommendation. Ill let a little out to see if that helps.
The rear tires at 44psi will give a harsh ride, especially if you are the only one in the car. I lowered the rear tire pressure to 38 or 39 and kept 36 in the front. Car seemed to ride a lot better.
If your tires are old and crusty then they will handle like crap even if there is plenty of tread. Check the date code on those Pirellis.
The rears are only a year old as they were toast when I bought them. The fronts are somewhere around 8 years old. Worth trying some tire pressure checks. Still getting used to what's normal and what's not for something that's 18yrs old.
Agree with the tire pressures can help a little, after that's its a decent struts, right weight springs and bushes will all help. However its just intrinsic in the design of the 911 that you will feel every ripple in the road, can be a PITA on bad roads but its also what makes it an amazing driver car. I don't think you will every get a "smooth" ride with low profile tires and relatively short travel sports tuned suspension
nrp3: Your front tires are most likely toast - too hard. My car had old front tires, one new RR and one worn out LR on a cracked rim. After repairing the rim and replacing the rear tire it really exposed how hard the front tires were. Replaced those too and it made a big difference. Lowering the pressure in the rear tires made it even better. There is very little sidewall on our tires so as mrfeh put it, "Smooth isn't gonna happen."
Tire sidewall makes a difference. The recommended 17" tires have .5 inch more sidewall than the 18s. If you are running 19s, there's your problem right there.
