Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey gang, trying to solve a mystery. I have conflicting option codes on a 2003 996 C4S as listed on the lid sticker. The C4S is well cared for with clean history and is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission. The option sticker shows transaxle code: G9631 , as I understand it, the 6-speed manual. BUT the sticker also includes option codes 249 and 432 indicating tiptronic 5 speed transmission and tiptronic controls on steering wheel. The other option codes are correct. The car shows no indication or documentation of transmission change. I pulled original window sticker which shows transmission not available and option codes for tiptronic are not present. This is a bit of a mystery to me - I just don't understand. Any thoughts would be hugely appreciated!

POST 2Original post

Either it was a mistake on your code sheet, or someone changed it over to a manual. I have heard of folks over the years swapping a tip out for a manual trans.

POST 3Original post

Join PCA and order up the original certificate of authenticity (COA). It will show what the original car was optioned with.

Thanks very much for your reply. That is what I initially thought, but if it came from the factory with a tip. is seems like the trans. code on stick would show an automatic, and not the manual code, G9631. I checked some other tip. cars around the web and the accompanying trans. code on the stick indicated automatic transmission. I just can't sort it out.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Good idea. I ordered the original "window sticker" hoping that would clear it up and it only confused things. On that window sticker, the transmission says "not available" and the tip. option codes are not present. So very odd.

what is the probability that the bonnet sticker is a replica?
