i only tighten the filter by 3/4 to a full turn after the gasket contacts the base, per engine builder guidance.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i happily bought four new NAPA Gold 1348 oil filter on 1/2 price sale yesterday, too good a price to pass up for a two year supply. Anyway, today i drained the oil and removed the old oil filter (1348). Started to install the new one and discovered my end cap filter wrench didn't fit the new filter, nor did it fit any of the new ones. It appears NAPA has changed from a 73mm x 15 flute design to a 73 mm x 14 flute design. NAPA guy said as far as he knows the filters are the same, he hadn't seen any notice about the change. Needless to say they didn't have a 73x14 wrench in stock, but ordered one for tomorrow. But since they don't even offer a 73x15 wrench maybe its a conspiracy to sell more wrenches. Anyone else have this issue? i only tighten the filter by 3/4 to a full turn after the gasket contacts the base, per engine builder guidance. And the end cap wrench makes it easier when lying on the garage floor reaching under the car.....

POST 2Original post

You seem particular about your preferred wrench... but if I was to be so bold - try a run of the mill filter strap wrench. They work well and are versatile enough to work on pretty much anything.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah, i have a strap wrench and the end cap one is easier to get in there when lying on the floor. I haven't had to raise the car much to get back in there with that wrench.
