I use Zymol wax, it never dries white, you can wipe it on the black plastic parts, where ever you want, you can't see if when it dries.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah I know....it's embarassing to have owned her for six months and only now am I getting around to detailing her. I had no chance to see her up close as I bought from a dealer in VA. During the PPI I was more interested in the mechanicals as long as the cosmetics were reasonable which they were. So here is my question... what can I do to the front end to 'hide' the variety of rock chips in the bumper cover and frunk? I made the first pass with Menzerna and since it dries white it tends to stand out against the dark green paint. A respray of the front bumper is on the list but not near the top. Any thoughts are appreciated

POST 2Original post

Best bang for the buck is Dr Colorchip. Correct the area first then apply the paint.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

want to make them less visible for the short term. What I tried this morning was getting all of the Menzerna wiped off the bumper cover. Next I took some Adams All Purpose cleaner and a micro fiber towel and started wiping down the bumper cover to get all the residual wax out of the chips. Next I applied a spray on polymer from Prima called hydro with a clean micro fiber and wiped that thoroughly into the bumper cover over all and the chips in particular. Looks better in the garage but daylight will tell the real story...

POST 4Original post

I use the black wax, it dries dark and hides the chips better. It's a short term fix, but I wax at least once a month. Turtle wax makes a "black box" kit for about $20 bucks. My car is midnight blue.

POST 5Original post

Another vote for the colored wax. Mine is black, but my old Miata is BRG and the green wax works just as well. Those white spots of chip residue used to make me nuts!

POST 6Original post

I use Zymol wax, it never dries white, you can wipe it on the black plastic parts, where ever you want, you can't see if when it dries. This is the old school stuff.

POST 7Original post

A soft toothbrush to remove the risidual "old" white wax. Short term solution for appearance is Miguiars number 7 which also richens the color, hides hazing rings/swirls and light scratches. Apply 2 coats in the shade by hand or mechanical means. Paint products are all over the place out there. It's really going to come down to your research, product availability in your area and personal preference.

POST 8Original post

If you just want to have a temporary hide until a respray, I've used a colored Sharpie with good results.

POST 9Original post

Back in the day I used to use a big box of crayons (crayola) and fill in the chips with the crayon wax. Then i would do my normal polish, seal and buff.. Of course I typically have black cars..

POST 13Original post

Very nice on the crayolas! I went with Dr. ColorChip on the front bumper until I decided to get a re-spray. Quinn the Eskimo did the work at Fontana Speedway Festival of Speed a couple years ago. Here is a link to his video and he has some good tips IIRC on his website. Dr.Colorchip Paint system by Quinn The Eskimo - YouTube or http://www.carpaintchiprepair.com/blog/author/admin/
