Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

When I first started it after to overhaul/rebuild (your choice of terms), it ran pretty rough for a short time, until the ecu adjusted the settings.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust settings' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust settings' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I can't see parting with her, so I'd prefer to put in a rebuilt engine, but I'm also considering used options if the right one comes along.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A few days ago I got a slight misfire and check engine light. I pulled over, shut down immediately, and scanned for codes. I got a NR1 cylinder misfire. I cleared and restarted it thinking it was just from sitting for a few weeks. Almost immediately I got a white smoke out of the passenger tail pipe. I shut her down and towed to Svoboda Motorsport here in Miami hoping it was something "simple" like a cracked head. Unfortunately, the borescope doesn't lie and I have a cracked NR1 cylinder.
The car is a 99 (3.4 w/Cable Throttle)with approx 85k on it. I've had it a year and put 10k on it. It's a beautiful car and has become an awesome DD. I can't see parting with her, so I'd prefer to put in a rebuilt engine, but I'm also considering used options if the right one comes along.
For those in the know, does the cracked cylinder make a rebuild impossible and/or "trash" the core? I'm having the shop owner reach out to RND and other partners. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Here she is:
Sorry to hear your loss. My understanding is re-sleeving should take care of it. e.g., if you install Nickies, the original cylinders are machined away and the new ones are put in.
Correct or you can also opt to get it resleeved with steel cylinder walls which theoretically should minimize or eliminate typical cylinder scoring issues.(MB Motorsports offers this option)
Did this car ever live in the snow/cold states before?
Thanks guys. The car was mainly a TX/FL car all it's life. It's certainly frustrating that this happens with no warning. It may be worth the mental break just to go with Nickies and be done with it.

And this differs from the "Nickies" how?
[QUOTE=Byprodriver;12281522]
To further clarify I should've indicated that in conjunction to the steel cylinder wall option, it also utilizes special rings and pistons and this as a package reduces the chances of scoring as the tolerances and expansion rates could be more consistent in relation to one another. You can contact MB Motorsports for specifics as they would have first hand knowledge.
If you can handle the wait time, re-sleeving with Nickies, boring out to a larger displacement, and dropping in some forged pistons and rods (LN Engineering offerings) might make good sense. You can replace the timing chain, tensioners, AOS, and other dicey stuff at the same time. If you have a good shop available to rebuild it this way, you might even end up with greater peace of mind than going with an RND solution. Not sure how RND would handle the broken cylinder by way of core charge or acceptability, but might be worth an inquiry. None of these options are cheap, as you know, but that car seems worth it.
I'm going to look at all options, but right now a $20k RND engine is not on the table, unless I'm misunderstanding he core refund (ie it's a net $12k engine after core). I just can't justify that expense right now.
Has anyone recently had a rebuild with Nikies that didn't approach the $20k mark?
"unless I'm misunderstanding he core refund (ie it's a net $12k engine after core)."
^Probably^ I think the consensus is...It's a $20k engine
AFTER
a FULL core refund of 12/13k... no refund, puts you in the 30k range...seems pretty crazy to me...
cut your loses and sell or pile BIG money in it.you could take a risk of you buying a used engine and having it installed BUT if some thing is not right every one points a finger at another [it happen on this forum before]
I did mine for around 8k. Nikkies, ims pinned ims shaft, lne guardian, heads reworked, new internals, etc drove the price up. Since I did it myself, no labor costs, except the heads and nikkes.
Contact the RND sales team directly to see how the core charges work for cracked cylinders. Get an answer on the phone, each scenario is different and a cracked cylinder is a best case scenario failure considering collateral damages are typically zero. The original cylinders are machined away in their entirety, so if a cylinder is cracked, no one cares.
UFO motorsports did my Refresh for $7500. They also do the sleves but its something like $6000 and 3 month wait. Still only $13,500. May be worth a call.
When I first started it after to overhaul/rebuild (your choice of terms), it ran pretty rough for a short time, until the ecu adjusted the settings. Since then, no problems.
