Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Fill reservoir' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill reservoir' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The metal bar has not broken but I hope replacing the assembly fixes the issues.

I found a nice used set on EBay and replaced one side.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have an 02 996 cab. I had some transmission work done over the winter. Picked it up snd the top wouldnt go down. Found out the seals on one of the hydraulics was leaking. So I replaced those and filled reservoir. Went to test the top after hydraulic replacement, heard a bang and now the top will only go 3/4 the. Stops. I hit the button again and it will fully go down. But the clamshell wont close.I go to put it back up and the clamshell starts to close.. not good. I did see that both lid hinges seem to be broken. See pic so you know what part Im talking about. Could this be causing the top to not fully open and the clamshell issue
Yep. A clamshell broke on mine once. I found a nice used set on EBay and replaced one side. Not too expensive, not too hard to replace. It was a loud bang for me, too, I remember it. Takes a lot to snap a big piece of aluminum like that.
Theres a plastic bar/ piece under the flap that looks like it slides back and forth and lowers and raises the flap. The metal bar has not broken but I hope replacing the assembly fixes the issues.
Same thing happened to me. The cause of the snapped arm was binding in the mechanism that moves the clamshell, and I ended up having to replace that too.

Good news
I figured out the issue. For those that may have the same problem in the future there is a black plastics
potentiometer only on the left side that one of the pins from the hydraulic cylinder needs to slide into. It wasnt shown in the 3 how to videos I watched when replacing. Found it listed on a written how yo after a couple days of searching for the problem. I feel stupid for missing it but its also very easy to miss if youre not aware of it. Works perfectly now
