Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi, Thanks for all your help in advance. I recently purchased a '99 Cab and am going through the list of fixes/changes. I noticed a single 'thump' sometimes when accelerating and decided to check the engine mounts... seems to me they need replacing (photos enclosed.) - Am I correct? While there I saw some oil seepage (photo of location "red" after cleaning) and was wondering your thoughts around possible causes. I included a video with the location of the "seepage" and surrounding area for review, I see some oil further back in the video...makes me wonder. Your thoughts and opinions are welcome. Thanks again Red area is where oil was settled...

POST 2Original post

Spray the area with some brake cleaner and monitor it. For a 21 year old car it does not seem to be a major oil leak. Your motor mounts are completely shot. Change them out now.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the quick response... will order motor mounts and get them done. Will also do the cleanup with brake cleaner and monitor....

POST 4Original post

The oil is most likely from the spart plug tubes. If u r not sure in the cars maintainence it may be a good time to to plugs, tubes and updated coils.

POST 5Original post

For the thump - you should also check the transaxle mount to body interface. The transmission mount rubber bushing could need replacement or thru bolts (item 4/6) could be loose, or the 6 nuts (item 6a) that hold the transaxle front carrier to the unibody could be loose.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! Will look into the plugs/tubes/coils too.

POST 8Original post

The mounts have a fluid in them also. I followed it from my sump up to the mount. After replacing them I could hear fluid inside one if I shook it, but not the other. The fluid was red and had a very strong odor, didn’t smell like oil.

Exactly this. When I replaced my very worn mounts recently, I was surprised when the one on the drivers side started to bleed oil as I cranked on the VERY tight nut to remove it. It turns out theres oil in there, and when worn out, they can leak! Its a pretty easy job to swap the mounts, and not very expensive. Especially with Rein mounts.

POST 11Original post

Get those mounts replaced ASAP! There are quite few options from $100-400 ! It takes only about 1hr or so. Otherwise! https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...t-the-car.html

wow! I had not seen this, thanks for sharing!

POST 13Original post

Ill echo the sentiments of others that this is a fairly easy job, and where I started with maintenance work on mine last summer. I went with Rein.
