POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Found this post which puts a GE shower water filter on your garden hose for a spotless wash. Easy to do, approx. $25, all parts at Home Depot. http://www.mnmazda.com/forum/showthr...re-water-spots !)

POST 4Original post

Nice! Anything is better than the hard well water we have at my house.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes, similar to the Mr. Clean approach except they no longer produce the filters for Mr. Clean so you have to pay an arm and a leg for them on eBay. Hooked it up in 20 minutes. I've got a little leakage around the connections when its on which I will try and use plumber tape to elimitinate (but a bucket under it works fine right now). I am using it with a Turbo-wash nozzle at the end of my hose ( http://www.turbowash.com/ ).

POST 6Original post

Looks like a great idea. I think I'll try it, but make it so I can screw it on the end of the hose and use it only when rinsing my cars. I do have a softener but my black car still spots.

POST 7Original post

Excellent! Thank you for the post, as this could be right up my alley! I shall investigate this and look forward to giving it a try.

POST 8Original post

Great idea! Does it seem to work well for those of you that have tried it?

POST 10Original post

C'mon guys, you own a Porsche, the 996 model, nonetheless. Your car should only be touching Evian bottled water. j/k. Great idea as others have said. For me I just accepted the fact that I need to go over it with QD as I'm drying the car.

POST 11Original post

Since they discontinued the Mr. Clean products and I can't seem to find anything quite like it, I just use touch free car wash systems. I try to find gas stations, convenience stores or independent car washes who use the systems from Ryko.com . When I can't find these I also like the Express Lane Drive-Thru Systems made by MacNeilWash.com . One of the best car washes I have used was at a local gas station, Sunrise shell in Miami, Florida , while travelling last summer.

POST 12Original post

Great idea, been thinking about a 'spotless' water filter just for washing my cars. Has anyone tried it yet? Will it work as well as the more expensive water filtering gadgets advertised? Thanks for the post.

POST 13Original post

Quotes source post: 10271715

Exactly why I wash mine with Unicorn tears. Sometimes I feel bad punching them in the face to produce the tears but it is for a Porsche.

POST 14Original post

The house I'm renting has a spigot in the garage that is hooked up after the water softener and water heater, so I can get warm, soft water for washing. It is a thing of beauty. On top of that, the water heater is a heat exchanger, so any heat that goes into the water gets pulled out of the air in the garage, dehumidifying it in the process!

POST 15Original post

I tried the Mr. Clean system years ago and was less than impressed. I've seen the commercial de-ionizers before but I believe they were around $300. This looks like a reasonable alternative although I doubt my filter would last 2 years. Too many minerals in my water supply.

POST 16Original post

I tend to shed unicorn tears every time I see your avatar.

POST 17Original post

This is a great idea. I have both the Mr. Clean system & the Griot's Garage setup, but both are cumbersome & need overly expensive replacement filters. I also have the GE filter on my shower where it works well with minimal pressure loss. It is about 6 months old & is starting to have some water pressure loss, so I recently bought a replacement filter.

POST 18Original post

Question, What exactly does the GE filter claim to remove from the water? I have the CRSpotless system (for over 10 years now) and it ionizes the water. before you ask

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 11370194

My non-scientific answer would've been "spots," but the product description on Amazon says this: GXSM01HWW Features: -Filter system.-Tool-less filter change.-Each GE FXSCH filter gives you up to 6 months of filtered water. The filter should be changed after 6 months of use or 10,000 gallons, whichever comes first.-Reduces chlorine taste & odor Reduces Particulates Rust Reduction Sediment Reduction Silt Reduction UV Resistant.-Fits standard 12'' shower head and pipe connections.-Maximum filtered water flow (gpm) is 2.5 minutes.-10,000 gallon capacity.-Feed Water Pressure (psi): 20 Min. - 125 Max..-Feed Water Temperature: 40-160 F.-Plumbing Connections: standard 1/2'' shower head and pipe connections. Specifications: -The GE GXSM01HWW Inline Shower Water Filter can help improve your skin and hair by removing harmful minerals and sediments from your shower water. Experience softer skin and hair, and less dandruff with the GE Inline Shower Filter.-The GE GXSM01HWW reduces chlorine taste & odor for clean, healthy water.-The GE GXSM01HWW is easy to install on standard 1/2'' shower head and pipe connections. Dimensions: -Overall dimensions: 4'' H x 3'' W x 2'' D. No mention of how effective it is at removing minerals. Also, that max flow of 2.5 gpm looks a bit low if the output is to a pressure washer.

POST 20Original post

Quotes source post: 11370194

Went to Home Depot yesterday to check it out. It does NOT de-ionize your water. It removes sediment, chlorine, rust. So my guess would be your car may or may not dry spot free. I'm guessing worst case scenario would be at least an improvement. Also I noticed Home Depot carries a much larger version of the same thing that has 3/4 inch fittings. This should allow a hookup to your hose without all the additional fittings. It was only $20 and a two pack cartridge was $10-12. I generally use a leaf blower to dry 90% of my car then a quick wipe down with a micro fiber towel to dry the remaining drops. But seeing I also wash my wifes Subaru Impreza(black) and my own BMW 328 Xi Wagon(Dark Grey) picking up this filter might not be such a bad idea.

POST 21Original post

Yeah, I figured since my CRSpotless was a bit more expensive...and probably works a lot better...LOL

POST 22Original post

i did this, all plastic part from HomeDeposit and it leaked mercilessly...with plumbers tape, etc.. wasn't worth the trouble, IMHO- and yes Gater...your avatar is quite tragic ....

POST 23Original post

Just finished my install & hosed clean some of the windows on my house. This is going to be great, I'll save $5. a month in quarters + gas going to the spray wash to use the final rinse. Thanks for posting!

POST 24Original post

Quotes source post: 11387820

Update: The GE works pretty well for 6 washes then pressure & mineral filtering declines until you replace filter. If you pull the hose at a right angle to the filter it breaks the plastic connector easily. Searched online & found the best shower filter is made by Aquasana, best mineral & chlorine removal, least pressure drop, longest lasting filter, & metal fittings. $40 to your door.

POST 25Original post

Just use Optimum No Rinse enough for 64 gallons of wash is under $20 on amazon I mix it in a 2 gal pump sprayer and use maybe 1.5 quarts to wash the car No muss, no fuss, no spots takes maybe 15 min complete

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 10271715

^^This. Was a game-changer once I realized QD gives a little extra time to dry and avoid water spots and streaking on even a relatively sunny day. And, the Griot's Quick Detail smells awesome. I wish they made an aftershave. That said, may try to the filtered option linked to as well. Cheap enough that it can't hurt.

POST 27Original post

Quotes source post: 12560372

My latest favorite and very economical is to mix in 10-15% of Duragloss Aquawax into my already premixed Ultima Waterless Wash Plus, diluted to QD level. This not only cleans but acts as a booster agent to any wax/sealant/coating that may already be there. If you buy the bigger bulk bottles, this comes out to less than $1.00/bottle for QD+wax. Can't beat that. This way I don't feel guilty liberally using my QD all the time.

I was really iffy on this when my detail guy suggested - and swore by it. Now I use it between major washes if the car is just dirty or got caught in the rain. Works as advertised. https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-NR201.../dp/B00D8DR0AO

POST 32Original post

I am planning to add a water softener to my home since we have hard water problems. I plan to also run a separate line off the softener so I can wash my cars. I am also planning on buying a electromagnetic water softener which my plumber recommends. This will allow it to be run through the entire house and be used for cooking, ice cubes and drinking. Have any of you had any experience with this kind of softener instead of the typical salt based systems. Thanks! Update: I think I got what I wanted, a good water softener which I recently got from Amazon, I read many reviews and articles about Water Softener on the internet and finally decided to purchase Fleck Water Softener, this site has published a good review

POST 33Original post

I have a crappy salt based system that came with the house and it sucks. Looking at changing it soon but I haven't found a whole house softener system that I've fallen in love with yet. This is one I have been considering... Amazon Amazon

POST 34Original post

I have one of these that I have had for a few years now. I usually add it onto the hose for the final rinse. It works great and I never have spots when I use it, even if I'm feeling lazy and let the car air dry. Amazon Amazon

POST 35Original post

I have a salt based system that was purchased about two years ago and runs the entire home. My hose spigot uses the same water. I've not really noticed too much of a difference but the water doesn't spot like it did at our old home. Overall I don't really think about it. The salt gets refilled and the filter serviced once a year and nothing else to worry about. Works for me!

POST 36Original post

I have a very high end Kinetico water softener system that I hookup to my pressure washer, and I still get spots! I've now been doing the hoseless wash using optimum no rinse and it's been great!

POST 37Original post

I used to have to wash my cars with really hard water when I lived in Hawaii. Easiest, and cheapest solution is to just wash the car in the shade and dry with a primed drying microfiber towel. To prime a MF towel, spray some quick retailer or rinse-less wash on the drying towel.

POST 38Original post

In Fl most homes are set up to run all the house spigots with all the interior plumbing, so I have 2 paper water filters and a softener. So any spigot gets filtered softened water, and its clear, never any spots. When i wash the car at work, etc I get bad spots. Some cheap car washes also get bad spots. Good car washes are pretty clear
