I've had my '03 C2 for a couple years, and my ears either aren't very attuned to Porsche noises, or something is amiss. I've read about how loud the SAI pump is, but I've never heard anything like "a vacuum cleaner running" when I start my car. First of all - does the SAI pump run every time you start the car? If yes, what's the best way to see if it's functioning properly? Thanks.

The SAI pump will run on first cold start of the day. Mine will run for about a minute, then stop. After a short drive to a stop light it will often run again. Sounds like a vacuum cleaner with a faint whine. It is not loud at all unless the bearings are going bad. If it is not working it will throw a CEL (check engine light).

Ok - I don't have a CEL (or any other errors, according to my OBDII reader), so apparently it just isn't loud enough for me to hear. Thanks!

OP - If you have an OBD diagnostics computer you can start the SAI pump from the activations menu. You�ll hear that little �whiner� then.
