Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We are in the process of moving. My current home has a single car garage (10x20). I hate parking outside so I put in 4 post lift with extra height to allow me park the 996 on top and Jeep Wrangler on bottom. Well my new home has a 2 car garage. I hated the idea of not having a lift for servicing the car and jeep. So, I ordered another 4 post, not high lift as this garage is about 18 inches lower than the single car garage. It go me thinking that it would be an interesting thread to see 996's on lifts and hopefully a discussion about lift tips and tricks. 1. I have 2 scissor jacks that a I use to lift the car to remove wheels for servicing. Works pretty well. 2. Laminated 2x12's to fit across the lift similar to the jack tray at same thickness of lift that always more flexible jacking options. 3. Next one will be some sort of lift lighting. Here are some pics.

POST 2Original post

I'm currently talking to my garage door installer about redoing the tracks to allow enough room for a 4 post so i can stack 2 911s. appreciate the thread

POST 3Original post

Man, that seems like a tight fit! pictures of the Jeep under the 996?

POST 4Original post

I've been on the fence about what lift to get for a while now. Unfortunately, while the ceiling is high enough there is a support beam that runs through the middle of the garage. I keep leaning towards quick jack since it would be easier to do maintenance and detailing work but a 4 post would be nice because one of my cars sits outside all the time. The question is if I get a 4 post lift can I even store the Porsche high enough to get the daily driver under it?

POST 5Original post

Ive recently added a lift and really wish I wouldve done it years ago.

If you think that the double car garage is a tight fit, check out the single car garage. Oh, and I have done a ton of work on cars through the years in this garage including dropping the whole suspension, spindles, rear diff in a mustang and put it all back in 3 days with a bigger disc brakes and bigger rear end. Living in Toronto, I have had garages! and my cars always sleep under cover.

Depends on the height of your garge and height of your DD vehicle.

POST 8Original post

If we all only had garages with that ceiling height....and a GT3.....

POST 9Original post

When we lift our 996 before a body part goes under the vehicle it is supported in 6 separate places so unlikely anyone will get crushed. A You Tube series a guy is dropping his engine, and to make the point of safety he showed this picture of a guy he said was killed.

I see lots of people with garges of a normal ceiling height that can stack their DD under their weekend car so long as the DD isn't something enormously tall. Also, full disclosure, the garge and the two Porsches are my dads, the M3 is mine and I rob him of the lift whenever I work on it. I think he paid around $3800 for the lift installed, it is not bolted to the floor and with the rollers that come with it the lift can easily be moved by one person out of the way if necessary. It also has a jack that slides back/forth so you can somewhat easily put the vehicle on jack stands on the 4 post to do suspension work etc. A set of quickjacks on top of a 4 post would be a nice setup. A 2 post always wins in terms of accessibility but with a little more planning you can do about everything on a 4 post that you could 2 post lift.

POST 11Original post

In the You Tube video the guy's lift interfered with dropping the transmission, so he cut a piece off his lift!?
