Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I use a good sealant on the paint (Zaino) and wash it regularly, so I'm not too worried about the rest of the car.

How many of you are reporting the mileage that your car's computer is telling you vs actually checking by filling the tank and dividing the miles driven by the gallons used?
Leading evidence: 'Use good sealant' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check by' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Having said that, it shows 17-18 around town which is really 15 or so when you actually fill the tank.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I decided to try and track the fuel economy on my new-to-me 996.
http://www.fuelly.com/car/porsche/91...oustrap/288627
Last two tanks were 100% city driving. 12.96mpg and 13.56mpg, respectively. Ouch!
Anybody else get fuel economy that low? I wasn't expecting much, but my comparison point is a 550i bmw (8 cylinder) and even that never got under 14.5 or so.
Still, it makes me smile every time that I drive it... so whatever!
I used to own a HUMMER. It consistently delivered mileage in the 15 mpg range.
I tend to drive a mix of city and highway miles in my 996. I average 21 or 22 mpg.
I'm always somewhere between 19 and 22 mpg usually with mixed driving of highways and city stop and go. My 5.3 V8 in my '05 GMC gets a 14-17 mpg range and has never hit 18 mpg even with highway driving.
I get 9-10 MPG flat out on the track and you're getting 12 on your daily drives? Ouch.
On highway I get 27, but more like 21-22 around town which is mixed highway/suburban driving.
City only driving gets me the same gas mileage as you. Only on the highway at cruising speed can I get above 20 mpg. The best I ever registered on the highway was 25 mpg.
I guess I should put "city" into perspective. I live in downtown Boston, not in a suburb. So (unfortunately) a 100% city tank really is a lot of stop-and-go between traffic lights.
I am at 10ish on the track and average 23-25 on the highway with cruise on. My Land Rover is my around town car and I don't want to depress myself with the numbers that beast gets.
I don't.
I'm a car enthusiast, but probably not your typical Porsche owner. The car is pretty modded and I'm meticulous when it comes to maintenance, but I'm street parking it. Cars are meant to be driven, right?
I bought it as a bit of an impractical daily driver. My commute is less than 2 miles, so I either walk or take the T and the car only gets driven on weekend trips or errands.
I figure a parking spot near me in a garage will cost me ~$400 a month. I'm willing to take a gamble that the car will sustain less than $400 in damage per month, so I just can't justify paying more than my car payment in storage expenses. There's a small scrape on the front bumper behind the plate, but that's about it so far in the last 2 months. If I have to repaint the bumpers once a year for $700-800, I will. I use a good sealant on the paint (Zaino) and wash it regularly, so I'm not too worried about the rest of the car. And when it comes time to sell it, if you can't accept that a 10 year old car has had it's bumpers repainted, then so be it.
Now when winter comes and I have to put snow tires on it...
On the bright side, you're not having to fill up a V8 Cayenne on a regular basis. If you push it at all, then it can easily drop into single digit mileage. Woof.
Good man! With the prices continuing to fall it's silly to baby these cars. Drive em and enjoy em
I drag the OBC average down to about 15 when I drive it on a mixed commute, but as soon as it gets up to temp I rarely have it below 3.5-4k.
When she used to drive it regularly, my wife would usually average 19-22 for mixed use.
I really need to get it into a good Tech and have it gone over and cleaned up. I'm sure there is a bunch of minor stuff that is dragging the average down these days (it 13 years old and has had no major work in it's life) beyond my heavy foot and low gear choice.
I drive mine in the winter as well. I was curious based on my visits to Boston and seeing up close what parking is like on the streets. You have the right attitude about your Porsche.
Low to mid teens for 100% stop and go city driving for short trips sounds about right to me. Besides stop and go, I bet your avg speed is less than 35-40mph.
Even my BMW see's mid teens in 100% stop and go, low speed, 2mi commutes. In "normal" mixed commuting, it would never get lower than 22mpg.
I was at 12-14 mpg in town, now I have gotten it down to 9 mpg, hoping for 7-8 It is a Porch, ya know.
I do own an H3, get 18 in town, 21 mpg on the hwy.
How many of you are reporting the mileage that your car's computer is telling you vs actually checking by filling the tank and dividing the miles driven by the gallons used?
My car's computer consistently tells me I am getting 2-3 MPG more than it really is.
Having said that, it shows 17-18 around town which is really 15 or so when you actually fill the tank. And 23 to 26 on the open road which reality shows to be just over 21 or so.
Im at 20 mpg (14l/100km) using 94 octane. Im mixed for sure with more highway and i do generally like to be north of 4000rpm.
My mdx is avg 18 mpg (15l/100km) using 89.
So i consider my c2 to be my eco car!
The gfs civic is in at 35 mpg (8l/100km) using 89 octane in bumper to bumper commuting
I average 19 to 20 mpg for mixed driving and 25 on highway (I can get 28 if I drive very conservatively, which I rarely do). On the track I average 14 mpg.
Admittedly, those figures are based on the computer. I guess I should manually calculate it one of these days.
devioustrap, put on a locking gas cap. Your neighbors are siphoning from you in the middle of the night.
I have a few concerns when I’m driving my 996. I wonder if I am breaking the local noise ordnance above 4000 RPMs, who is going to paint my new yellow hardtop black and how much horsepower is my 3.4 L engine actually producing. I have never thought about MPG, I just fill it up and continue to enjoy.
Just to add another data point,
Low teens commuting in Worcester according to the trip computer,
Seem to do about 26-27 Worcester to Albany on the highway.
Mine is about 11 MPG town driving with only a small bit of Welly here and there...🥶
What I love about the Porsche...it assumes the driver is a complete idiot... most other cars have the option to select sport mode as and when desired.
My 996 if you go deep into the carpet and open it up full tilt...it goes into sport mode all by itself... take off the throttle because it's just scared the hell out of you and it won't change up... It stays in sport mode for what seems like a couple of mins
