Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I think it is a fluke or since it had its FP sending unit replaced before it was shipped to me they did not follow procedure.

Leading evidence: 'Replace before it was shipped' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check fuse e6 first' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The magnet switch is easily tested with an ohm meter attached to the two wires and then passing a magnet near the black tube part.

Suggestion
For some odd reason, if the nozzle isn't upside down, it generally either shuts off the fill early, or overfills and spills onto the ground.

Suggestion
I'm assuming it has something to do with the shape of the fill port tube, which may not be able to receive the gas at the same rate as the nozzle pumps it out...

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
31 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Put in the filler nozzle and you pull the handle and the gas won't go in. Gas splashes back out. Tried two nozzles. I could have sworn I have read about others having this issue.
Check fuse E6 first.
Read the whole thread. The problem is not accessible through the filler neck as first suggested. There is a TSB on it also, Fuel Tank Hose Modification TSB 5/99 2015
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ake-gas-5.html
Well the fuse is fine. Looks like from reading the other thread I need to zip tie those lines. The TSB has been removed. Anyone have the link to it again???
perhaps key wasn't fully 'off' the previous time? think this might be an issue some are having-IIRC car has to be completely off electrically for the vent valve to function properly. For the record, I've never had this issue with mine, key in pocket and gas pump handle in 'normal' position
Also, some gas station pump shut-off's are overly sensitive and can make any car harder to fill.
Cheers,
There is a "That is a what she said " joke there
I am going to fill at 1/4 a tank for a while to make sure it was a fluke.
I have had 6 other 996's and filled up the same way. I think it is a fluke or since it had its FP sending unit replaced before it was shipped to me they did not follow procedure. I know my ignition switch needs replaced soon to. Just the little things needed with the 996 as they age
Yep! I always gas up my car this way. For some odd reason, if the nozzle isn't upside down, it generally either shuts off the fill early, or overfills and spills onto the ground.
I'm assuming it has something to do with the shape of the fill port tube, which may not be able to receive the gas at the same rate as the nozzle pumps it out... that is the only thing that makes sense to me.
Actually, that's a "just the tip" joke...
Even with the fueling stuff functioning properly, my 996 (and my 986 before it) can be finicky about fueling. Some stations I have to rotate the nozzle 90 degrees; at another I have to fuel it very slowly. There is one pump at one station I just can't use. At all. Seems to me that the fuel filling system is just stupidly complex. Since fuel fillers have existed for about as long as the internal combustion engine-powered horseless carriage, you'd think that this particular design area would have gelled. I'm sure that California's regulations against poisoning the environment with one part per gazillion gas fumes isn't helping.
you know the flap inside the filler tube that opens when you insert the gas pump nozzle? It has a magnet on it. On the top of the filler tub sitting inside the plastic piece that holds the fuel line vapour valve is a switch that is open when no magnet is present and closes when a magnet is within some proximity.
For those of you who have to turn the nozzle upside down or to the side it may be that the magnet or the switch is weakened.
I was troubleshooting the slow fill up issue on my C4S. The magnet switch is easily tested with an ohm meter attached to the two wires and then passing a magnet near the black tube part.
Alternatively, you might try observing the flap thing in the filler tube while filling. Try it at different positions.... you know partly open versus all the way open and touching the top of the inside of the filler tube.
Wow, I never knew there was so much complexity over filling the tank with gas. Mine fills full every time with no nozzle gyrations necessary. I hope I'm not pre-disastering myself....

Has anyone tried this for the 3/4 fill problem?

I'm thinking about it so I don't have to turn the nozzle upside down, or is this just being lazy?
