At some point i had some noise from the pedal, it was the spring helper.

I had to threaten then legally and even then I agreed to pay some for the parts, which they installed original ones.

I replaced my clutch as well and still had the noise.

The clutch was fully replaced a couple of weeks after buying by the dealer (audi dealer)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
Brief back story.
Have the car for 1 year. The clutch was fully replaced a couple of weeks after buying by the dealer (audi dealer)
The car went to porsche for the big 100k service some 6 months later, they told the noise was from the "receptor cylinder" (sry, dont know the englosh name).
They said all was greased up, the next day the noise was back.
Scheduled another appointment there and they said they need to fully replace the clutch. I dont believe it.
The noise.
At cold temp (for the transmission) only a small chirping can be heard while pressing on the pedal.
After about 30-40 mins drive the rusty noise starts. If the day is hot the noise seems to be louder and start sooner tan 30 mins drive.
Searched a lot on the net about it and havent seen anything like that.
Does any of you have any idea?
Here is the youtube vid of it, i am pressing the clutch at slow and fast rate after a ride.
Porsche 996 C4S clutch noise - YouTube
Thanks
I had this, many others also.
I got this after the official Porsche workshop in my town inserted new clutch kit, LN-IMSB, fallout bearing and RMS. I was told they had forgotten to grease the different points according to spec. Also some guy at the counter mentioned that the clutch engagement arm was mounted incorrectly so that the fallout bearing was engaging and disengaging unevenly. If you have had this kind of work done lately, go back to the shop and demand them fix it. This is a warrantable symptom of lack of grease.

I cannot take to the Audi dealer.
Long story short, they didn't want to cover under warranty even tho the clutch started to fail a couple of days later.
I had to threaten then legally and even then I agreed to pay some for the parts, which they installed original ones.
After the problem continued after their install I took to Porsche and paid then to reopen the clutch, change the remission mount and also they found a non standard clamp in there (I supposed installed at Audi).
After all this work I took the car and after 1hr of driving the noise came back and i took right away to Porsche to complain, so I scheduled another appointment.
After 2 days there they told me that they need to replace the clutch.
I don't want to do the job myself I just want to really understand the problem and I think the link Arne posted is spot on.
I can't believe I'll have to reopen the clutch. Damnit.
Thanks a lot for your help.
Krpano, your situation is similar to mine. since I got the car, the tranny has been out of the car four times due to stuff like this. All under warranty though.
Hope you fix it.
Hey Arne thanks for the cheers.
That sucks, but you say there is hope ?
I started to notice some odd smell lately, dunno if it is related or not.
Like if something is burning, but not fire burning, not rubber, hard to explain.
I noticed a little bit of oil under the block on the drivers side just above the exhaust, the smell could be the heat from it.
I dunno, i'll take the car soon to recheck the clutch and if there is something more i'l just sell the car.
I'm agree on that buying an used sports cars can be costly but sometimes you just dont have luck with the car and a decision has to be done between keep spending money on it or just replace it.
Good luck with your car too
If one of these days you can get the info would be very nice of you.
Not only for me but for others as well that might have the problem in the future.
But no problem if you dont, i'll send the car for repair again for the last time in a couple of months.
Cheers from Switzerland.
I had the same creaking sound. Inspect the clutch slave cylinder and the release arm. When the release arm gets worn its metal to metal which creates that noise. the arm is like $35+-. I replaced my clutch as well and still had the noise. Took me 3 visits to get it right unfortunately but found there was wear on the release arm.
Similar experience.... once the car is warmed up it gets louder.
Hardback that is interesting, with me this sound began a few months after the installation of a new clutch kit. Or I only noticed it after a few months. Nobody knows, but very very irritating indeed. Also replaced the slave cylinder, that did not help though.
@ Hardback
Thanks for your input.
When i said "receptor cylinder" i meant slave cylinder.
The slave cylinder was the thing that Porsche replaced to "fix" the problem.
I'll be checking the release arm.
@ Arne
Mine was like that, the rusty gate noise started after the new clutch.
@ Seneca
You are talking about the same kind of noise coming from the back outside of the car?
At some point i had some noise from the pedal, it was the spring helper. Once i replaced it, 'that noise' was gone.
Edit:
Stupid question.
Can the release arm be inspected without removing the clutch/trasmission ?
If the clutch is symptom free when the engine is running, and by that I mean the engagement is smooth with no sponginess of the pedal's feel, the clutch disengages fully and shifting is without any problems, my WAG is the (hopefully) the external clutch linkage is the source of the noise.
It sounds a bit harsh to be something that can be cured by judicious application of lubricating oil though.
Unless you are a rather savvy DIY'er I suggest you find a shop that specializes in these car and have this looked into. I would normally recommend you take the car back to where the clutch job was done but if you can't or won't do that you have to find another shop.
Very interesting issue here. With a hydraulic clutch system like the one on the 911, it can be a bit more difficult to determine the exact problem than with an older-style cable clutch system. Spongy pedals, excessive free play, and grinding noises all indicate problems with the clutch or hydraulic system. Strange noises that change when you push in the clutch pedal can indicate a pilot bearing or throw-out bearing beginning to fail. Finally, if your clutch begins to slip when the pedal is not depressed, then chances are your clutch disc is worn or the spring plates in your pressure plate have worn out. Are you only hearing the noise from the clutch and nothing else?
My pedal too is a little noisy when I push it in and out
. Does it seem like it's the clutch itself or do you feel the noise could be from the pedal? Either way, if the work was done at a shop I would take it back until it's 100% right. Save you the headache from dealing with it. Good luck and let us know what happens.

mine makes a sound like that if I let off the clutch and the car starts moving. Friend drove it and didn't notice it or say anything, shop had it apart for the IMS and didn't say anything - I'm not worried.
@ Macster , i know what you mean.
I remember the first shop i took my 996 talking about that (was the shop that i took my previous car)
I might look at that linkage again, i just find odd that Porsche wouldn't grease it correctly since the car was there about 4 times at the end of the last year, including for the 100k service.
The clutch kit was fully replaced short time ago with original parts.
Do you believe that it would be possible that the lubrification would be gone in a couple of days ?
@ Seneca035
Yeah, i had a noise coming from the pedal when i got the car and it turned out was a worn clutch pedal spring.
I had removed myself to validate it.
You can just get your ear near the pedal and press the clutch pedal with your hand.
@ PelicanParts.com
Thanks for reply.
The clutch kit was replaced a short time ago.
And shifting is excellent and smooth. When cold is a bit clunky tho.
At Porsche they opened the clutch/trasmission 2 times already after the replacement. The slave cylinder was replaced and transmission mount (was busted)
Isn't the throwout bearing part of the clutch kit ?
@ Chiamac
Well, mine is noisy whenever i press the clutch.
Really awkward when you are in a parking lot manoeuvring or at a stop light and ppl are around. The noise is quite noticeable.
The most important is that i hear myself and it drive me nuts.
