It's been a while since I replaced the tires on my 2004 996 probably around 7 years and 20K miles ago.

I'm running Hankook v12s now since I got them with the wheels.

I've always run Michelin's on all of my vehicles, but my 996 came with a brand new set of P-Zeros.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey 996 Gals and Guys,
It's been a while since I replaced the tires on my 2004 996 probably around 7 years and 20K miles ago. So while thread is still ok the age is not. I understand Porsche recommends not using tires older than 6 years old.
I've enjoyed the use of Michelin tires since new and would probably like to keep things in the Michelin family.
Sizes I'm looking to replace are Front: 225/40-18 Rear: 285/30-18 and primarily for street, canyon carving, and roadtrip use.
Any Rennlister's happy with their Michelin PS2's?
Any other Michelin and non-Michelin options I should consider?
Thank you for your input.
Cheers.
My car has some Continental DW tires that came from the previous owner and I'm happy with them, no real road noise, my friend swears by them, and they hold the road dry really well and work wet really well.
When it's really wet I can kick the rear end out a little on a tight corner if I want, which is fun. They don't work at all when it's cold and/or on frost, let alone snow.
I just replaced mine - put on Pirelli P-Zeros and it cost me about $500 less than PS2s. My Conti DWs were what came on the car when I bought it, but they were old/hard... so although I think the P-Zeros are outstanding, it isn't a fair comparison as I probably saw the Contis at their worst.
Just got Michelin Pilot Super Sports a couple months ago and I'm very happy with them. The only trick is that the back tire profile is 35 b/c 30 is not offered on 18s. Cheaper and better than PS2s.
I have Continental DWS' on my car, got them installed when I picked up the car. I like a soft tire for great comfort. I have never found a noticeable difference in street driving on a pure summer time, in fact, the few times I have had them on my vehicles, I can't stand them because they ride harder, and make noise within a short mileage, and never last more than 15K miles. But that's on a full size Audi.
My car handles great with the DWS' and they are great in the rain. I will run them on the track for one day in less than two weeks. I don't plan to over drive them, just have some fun and not wear them out. Smooth is fast.
Thank you all for your kind inputs. Much appreciated...
What are your thoughts currently with sticking to N-rated tires or not?
Rubik - I see that you're in the Burbanko area. I'm relatively close. I understand that the PSS are the replacement of PS2s. Where did you buy and install your tires? Since the PSS rears have a slightly taller profile, do they still look good overall? Thank you in advance!
1st: Forget the N-Rated propaganda; it's all BS. Look at tire specs and test results.
2nd: I got mine from American Tire Depot. However, I've heard lately that it's backorderd at the moment as it is the most popular tire in this segment. As far as the look, to a very scrutinizing eye it may look very slightly chunkier; of course this won't be noticed by 99.9% of the people. I think it looks awesome. Also, from overall circumference standpoint, with the 35% wall profile you get a truer speed reading from your cluster.
I think my next tires will be the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs assuming I can find them in the right sizes. That is based on recommendations on this forum (

) and some solid reviews including this one from Car and Driver:

They are in a different class (considered Extreme tires) but apparently the treadwear isn't
too
bad.
I've run PS2 and Michelin PSS on my 19" wheels. I was extremely happy with the PSS but I couldn't find the right sizes when I dropped back to 18". They are great both dry and wet, have a quiet ride even when completely worn, and have great tread life. I'm running Hankook v12s now since I got them with the wheels. They are just okay. They do look better than the PSS but that is the only advantage that I can tell and I wouldn't recommend them.
I'm personally not too concerned with getting N-rated and never really factored that into my decision.
+996 for the RE-11. I've tracked them hard and they're my favorite street able track tire. I now run Toyo 888s but keep the RE11 s in the truck as spares and rain tires.
