Used a floor jack to support the trans, and a trans jack with some wood on it to support the motor.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So just curious what short lifts have been found to lift a car high enough to get the motor out? I'll be using a 4 post, but got to wondering what to do if I don't have access to the lift sometime down the road.. Quickjack? Rotary ? Whats worked..

POST 2Original post

Where've you been? I was wondering about you. Glad to see you back. I'm no help on this but I'm sure you'll get it figured out.

POST 3Original post

QuickJack (tm) is probably not high enough, although if the bumper is off, it might work. A mid-rise jack would work. A 4 post works for sure.

POST 4Original post

I plan to invest in Maxjax very soon for this reason. And I just changed my mind after seeing a recent post with pics. Quick jacks with SUV adapters will get the job done for engine removal.

POST 5Original post

Four post lift for an engine pull sounds like a pain in the butt. Every time I try to do anything on a four post I find the ramps get in the way.

POST 6Original post

I did it just with jack stands on top of 2 2x10s screwed together. Used a floor jack to support the trans, and a trans jack with some wood on it to support the motor. I think using a 4 post would be very tough. I have since gotten a two post, and it makes everything 1000x times easier.

I don't even own a 2 post lift. I do everything on a 4-post

POST 8Original post

Yikes. At least you are smart enough to hang it off the back like that. Much better access!

POST 9Original post

I removed mine with a 4 post, but had to relieve a small section of the lift to clear the cam covers

POST 10Original post

In the what did you do to your 996 today there was a post about dropping the engine with the Quick Jacks. Looks like you can get enough clearance with SUV adapters. Might be worth checking out.
