Also, I was replacing the latch and regulator in a door and would like to get rid of that goofy Bose speaker/acoustic resonator box that sounds like **** anyway (even tho I can't hear).

If you are truly pursing audio quality, you will likely want a full feature double din headunit, aftermarket amp, replace speakers etc.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took out my after market kenwood head unit the PO had installed.....to fix the beep on lock up and because it is UGLY and has too many flashing lights. Also, I was replacing the latch and regulator in a door and would like to get rid of that goofy Bose speaker/acoustic resonator box that sounds like **** anyway (even tho I can't hear). that means theres no place to mount a better speaker in the door. So what could I put in that head unit hole and what to do about door speakers?

I just went through this exact process on my 996. Previous owner had installed a hideous headunit, flashing red blue lights, no bluetooth, removable display that rattled etc. I opted to install the Continental headunit as it had a built in mic, bluetooth music streaming and looks excellent (in my opinion), as the design looks like something that could have left the factory. They're very cheap (~$130 usd) but have limited features EQ etc. I would suggest that if you're not an audiophile and just looking for a cheap and nice looking solution, these are a great option. If you are truly pursing audio quality, you will likely want a full feature double din headunit, aftermarket amp, replace speakers etc. If you have the OEM hifi system with the amp in the trunk, I would strongly suggest spending the money to get the harness from these guys, as well as the Porsche decal: https://www.bergvillfx.com/ . Very easy install.

I'm probably going with this radio. It's a new radio with all the current features, but with a period correct retro style. The only other one I'd consider is the Porsche classic single DIN unit, but that's twice the price. I kind of like the Blaupunkt better, too. I have an aftermarket Pioneer radio in right now and I hate the way it looks. https://www.blaupunkt.com/en/nc/prod.../single/19059/

I've been looking at the Bremen for awhile, but there didn't seem to be much for availability. If you get one installed, let us know how it sounds.
