Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Since we routinely talk about the best upgrade to these cars is the driver I am going to invest in this training. I would also like to start Autocrossing, but have zero experience in competitive driving techniques and want to go in with some level of "race" training before I start competing in local events. I am looking to attend this course in the early Fall in Atlanta. Looking for folks' comments on those who may have attended in the past. The good, the bad, and the ugly (if that's possible). Want to align my expectations so I know what to expect.

POST 2Original post

I don't have first hand experience with that course but I'd be very surprised if you couldn't have more fun/learn almost as much for less than $1800 via an HPDE entry or 5.

POST 3Original post

Check out your local PCA chapter. Most have AX and HPDEs . Some also have Car Control Clinics or the equivalent. I would wait until you have at least a little seat time in AX or HPDE before spending $$$ on a school. PCA events generally include free instructors. After you get some seat time, you will get more benefit from a school. AX is probably the best to learn car control

POST 4Original post

I believe the 1 day course is in Alabama, Barber Motorsports Park. The Atlanta Driving Experiences are 90 minutes. If you do it try to get an early morning time slot, when I did it my instructor told me that's when the most experienced instructors are working. Also the 1-day course is a lead-follow event, at the Atlanta Center you have in instructor in the car with you and giving you constant feedback.

POST 5Original post

Yeah - ummm..... join your local PCA and sign up for their auto cross events - they will have "instructors" as well. Definitely do some HPDE's offered by PCA as well - for a pile less money.

POST 6Original post

I would actually recommend a 3 or 4 day course like Bondurant or Barber over a one day course. 3 days gives you time to isolate and learn individual skills. One day is just going to be an onslaught of information with little time to practice or absorb.

POST 7Original post

This is the equivalent of a girl at the mall holding up a purse and asking her friends if she should buy it. Do you need specialized performance driver training to get started in autocross? Definitely not. But if you really want that shiny new thing, does it matter what your friends, or strangers on the internet think of it? Definitely not. If you think you'll have fun, just go. Who cares if other people think it's "right for you"??

POST 8Original post

You cant learn advanced techniques until you have the basics down. Just go to the autocross as a novice. They will give you an instructor start slow, listen to the instructor. Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

POST 10Original post

PCA autocross is a great place to learn. Most clubs (of any car make) have their own autox schools right around now to start the season. If you're lucky you might be able to catch one. Either way, there are always novices and instructors at every autocross, so don't wait until the fall. Not sure where central podunk is... but 10 bucks says you can find some kind of group autocrossing in your area this weekend. If you're committed to the Barber school, autocrossing ahead of time will only help you be more comfortable when you get there in the fall.

POST 11Original post

Yes join the PCA. It's seriously the best car club in the universe. I'm really bummed GM and Corvette have nothing even remotely similar for my ZR-1. It's one of the reasons I own a P car (roached out 944 turbo) and am looking to get another (996). I'm looking forward to taking advantage of my PCA membership for autoX and track time. As a novice autoXer you need nothing but a helmet and a well maintained car (think brakes, suspension and tires). After a year or two of autoX and HPDE experience you would get a lot more out of a driving school and you will know exactly what kind of school you are searching for. And I will give you another huge hint for free.
