The time cost of that one was ridiculously easy, and what should have been normal business for a coolant leak, cost me $2800 more than the repair should have.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

18 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well after many many months of trying to idenify and fix a very subtle coolant leak my porsche is back on the road.

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This ordeal started in a local indy shop. That person identified the leak, pulled the engine charged me $4200 and failed to fix the leak he identified.... pretty much a waste of my time and in the end he told me to take my business somewhere else because he was not going to compensate me in any way. thank god for Evolution Motorsports....they not only identified the problem.... they fixed it at a very reasonable cost. These guys are true professionals and once again I learned a lesson that you get what you pay for. Sam, Nick and John the engine builder did a superb job on my repair. and BTW if the original shop had just taken the 15 minutes that it took EVOM to remove the oil tank the leak would have been identified and I would not have had to pull the engine 2 times. The time cost of that one was ridiculously easy, and what should have been normal business for a coolant leak, cost me $2800 more than the repair should have. The difference between $80/hr. and $110/hr. attached is a picture of the leak as finally identified by EVOM

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This failure appears to be factory original since the OEM original gasket was still installed as well as the original head bolts. There was nothing associated with head lift as constantly used as an excuse by the indy shop.... the head bolts were all in spec. It appears the gasket was the failure from the factory and it was leaking all along. I think most technical people understood that head lift is catastrophic and would result in many other obvious failure modes and easily identified. The leak was so small that the original owner most likely was waiting for something to happen more substantial and it never did. I could have probably drove the car and never had a problem. But since the engine was out and I was going to replace the gasket I went ahead and rebuilt the heads, inspected everything and did the recommended 70k and 100k maintenance. For having 68k miles and a GT660 kit this engine was in remarkable shape. Another testament to the EVOM engineering and parts.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The last decision I made was to remove the GT660 kit and the Fabspeed exhaust and return the car to factory original...well almost. I was able to find every OEM part I needed either on Rennlist or Ebay. It took a while but thank god for the internet. Everyone thought I was crazy and maybe I was. I also was able to sell all the GT660 parts on Rennlist and it more than paid for the OEM parts I needed and helped to offset the head rebuild. I also found a set of new Bosch OEM Fuel Injectors for $235 from all places Riga, Latvia that really was a very seamless transaction…..look for these guys on Ebay start245 or facebook, they saved me a lot of money I kept the EVOM tuner, intake Fabspeed headers and Fabspeed intercoolers. I also did transmission, suspension and front end work so I now basically have an almost factory new car. The 2005 911 Turbo S is the last 996TT and this car is a special-order color and a coupe. Very few coupes were imported and in all, from what I could research, there were only about 600 996TT’s imported in 2005. So, I think the car has more value long term as a factory original then a race car.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

more pics of the finished product

POST 7Original post

I like that color. Should have an attorney send a letter to the indy that screwed you...

POST 8Original post

Good to hear your car is back on the road again. Make sure you also share your story with the rest of the turbo guys in the TURBO forum: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turbo-forum-61/ EDITED to post the correct link

whats the point of the link?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

don't know why the link screwed up. I got my injectors there after lots of research. Their price was better than even EVOM could get injectors for....$235 for 6 stock Turbo S injectors including shipping from europe. about half of anywhere else I found them. I just wanted to pass on the link for what appeared to be a good reference for porsche parts to members The advertise on ebay as Start245

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

808Bill I have a personal company attorney that has all of the information if I decide to go down that path and I have fully documented everything.... if you have sued anyone you know that only the lawyers win. If I can save a few people the headache of using that guy then I accomplished my goal. Word of mouth and social media is much more powerful then suing. Some business people are so short sighted and never see that one poorly treated customer with a social media account turns into many lost customers. There are many stories about Yelp and Angies List and others and the impact they have on a businesses cash flow.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

for some reason the links don't show up

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

can anyone tell me how to cross post this to the Turbo Forum and 6speedonline

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I wanted to give a shout out to Evolution Motorsports in Phoenix AZ. If you live in Phoenix and you need work on your Porsche they are honest, skilled, knowledgeable and very detailed in their workmanship. Give Sam Stone a call. They recently moved and are setting up their new facility but they are a full-service repair shop and can do complete engine teardowns and modifications. I could not have recovered from the first guy at the personal financial cost to me without them.
