Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im trying to get some pictures of my 2000 996 cab to check for issues that need work. The first one looks like some oil leaking. What part am I looking at? The second one is a hose with remnants of either coolant or Freon. Appreciate any inputs. Im not a mechanic but would like to point these out to Jerry at EPE to address. Thank you.

Lol? Sorry OP... can't help. I'm sure someone on the community will be able to chime in on what those leaky components are.

POST 4Original post

First picture is Bank One (US Drivers side) valve cover and spark plug splash shield. Looks like you might need a valve cover reseal, or maybe just a VarioCam actuator seal (item with wire coming out in front of spark plug splash shield). Second picture is your oil filter housing, coolant pipe and header, looks like maybe your oil filter housing needs to be tightened. Best of luck.

Second picture looks to me like he has a spin-on oil filter with something like the LN oil filter adapter. So no oil filter housing, just the filter itself. But either way, yes, something there is leaking.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes the spin on filter is part of the LN IMS retrofit. Thanks very much for your comments.

POST 7Original post

One thing people try, in order to locate the leak, is to clean the entire area very well first. Then drive around some. The fresh oil from the source will be easier to see. After it leaks a while and gets everywhere, it's just too hard to find the source.
