As for the sticky ****, clean them with mild soap and treat them with some sort of rubber sealant and in some cases, I just replaced the things and was done with it.

Suggestion

However, adding to all of this has been the recent use of hand sanitizers which raises havoc with all of this Aniline or Semi-Aniline leather and generally dries the leather out...which means wiping or cleaning your hands to remove this alcohol-based product....hey it makes a great excuse for wearing driving gloves.

I use Leatherique products, start with rejuvenator oil with a lint free towel or horse hair brush, massage it into the problem areas liberally, let it sit overnight, by morning it's kind of sticky / grimey but that's from pulling all the crap out of the leather.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The *****, steering wheel and shift **** get sticky during humid weather. I also get mildew. I tried a mild Clorox solution but did not work.

POST 2Original post

I'm not a leather expert but I can't imagine bleach would be good for it. Have you tried a reputable leather cleaner and conditioner?

POST 3Original post

I thought this article would be helpful https://wheelsguide.net/remove-mold-car-seats-interior/ No bleach on leather!

POST 4Original post

If that is your issue I'd start w a White Vinegar solution, Let it work then get it off w clean water and microfiber wipe. Repeat, Should clean up. If dirty, sticky , lots of DNA residual for growth. I needed to help similar surface on MB, Sticky and Grimey. Looks great now. Get it clean and final prep clean w/ Lexol Cleaner and put a final Conditioner coat or 2 , good for many months, the leather will last many more years. if leather isn't worn through, clean it and nourish it, all that's needed.

POST 5Original post

I use Leatherique products, start with rejuvenator oil with a lint free towel or horse hair brush, massage it into the problem areas liberally, let it sit overnight, by morning it's kind of sticky / grimey but that's from pulling all the crap out of the leather. Spray with prestine clean and wipe down. Repeat process as needed. Some areas I needed to do this 3 or 4 times since Savannah Beige is pretty light toned.

Dude, I wouldn't bring bleach anywhere close to these cars. (I assume you mean bleach when you mentioned "Clorox"?) I've owned a cabriolet and moisture is a problem especially in my part of the country. IMHO, you need to dehumidify the car and carefully treat the areas with a leather solution that kills mold/mildew. Now, the stickiness related the ***** and such is a hard one to cure because the soft-touch painted surfaces just deteriorate with age. I've tried lots of recommendations, but I ended up just replacing the ***** with new ones. I also repainted my shifter with factory-matched leather paint from Color Bond. It's actually more like a dye that soaks into the leather but applies like a spray.

POST 7Original post

For just cleaning the leather, I have found Saddle Soap works pretty good. Then I treat all the leather surfaces with Meguiar's Gold Class 3 in 1 treatment. Since I have a full black leather interior I can also use black leather shoe polish and buff it out to a shine. That works great.

POST 8Original post

For sticky **** I just pull them off clean off the rubberized coating with alcohol....that exposes the black plastic which looks great. Looks better in fact and cost me nothing

POST 9Original post

Don't eat jelly and peanut butter sandwiches in your car...problem solved.

POST 10Original post

When its humid, the steering wheel leather peels off into my hands and I got black specs all over my hands

POST 11Original post

Use leather cleaner then leather conditioner, not an all in one product. i have had good luck eith auto glym products. the old radio ***** always seem sticky tho.

POST 12Original post

I gave up on the radio ***** and just replaced them with new ones.

POST 13Original post

very cool mods. I'm in Northern NJ. Will look for your ride at local events...

POST 14Original post

Consider that the steering wheel alone undergoes a considerable amount of time baking in the sun along with surface scratches from the many hours of usage accompanied with dirt and oil deposited with your hands that get baked or impounded in and on is a problem. Remember that leather in itself is a food source for mold, but on the other hand, mold will not grow on dead leather or dry rot either, but allowing the leather to dry out from the lack of oil and slight moisture isn't good either. Mold if allowed to remain over time will discolor leather, and deprive leather of the much-needed oils and moisture that are important. For cleaning mold or leather, I would use a damp cloth with a little bit of white vinegar added, not a lot but a little..... .little , then wipe to remove the mold let dry, and followed up with a light cleaning with a damp cloth using some baby shampoo, saddle soap, or a mild soap lifting as much grime as possible allowing it to dry slightly and then repeating if necessary without trying to damage or lighten the color. Then I would follow up when somewhat dried with Saphir universal leather sealant, letting it soak in then wipe it dry or any similar product. I have a 996 cab with an all-leather interior in Boxter Red and keeping a balance of nourished clean leather, some light sunshine during the week, top-down without baking the hell out of it seems to keep the mold and mildew away even in those humid days here in the People's Republic of New Jerky as well as making sure that all of those drains remain open with a tuba brush and mild soap also helps. As for the sticky ****, clean them with mild soap and treat them with some sort of rubber sealant and in some cases, I just replaced the things and was done with it.

POST 15Original post

You need to get rid of them fast before they can cause allergic reactions or health problems and serious damage to your car’s interior.

POST 16Original post

I 3D printed replacement *****. My original ones softened up like gumdrops. None of the home remedies that people suggested would have worked on them.

POST 17Original post
