Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I don't know how many miles he's put on it since the replacement, but I thought I read that the IMS must be replaced every 5 years or xxxx miles.
Leading evidence: 'Replace every 5 years or xxxx miles' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check ims thread' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

For example, my Dual row was replaced at 105k, and I am at 176k now.

I just completed my second 10 year refresh last month and replaced the IMS Retro with a new one.

I have used the Retro instead of the Solution because in addition to driving in the street, i will also track my car to give it some exercise, therefore I don't have a problem with over servicing and having the engine dropped to look at the clutch, flywheel, ims, rm, etc.

But you can check the IMS thread for info on failures.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Like the title says..here are the issues:
1) The lcd screen haas some pixels missing..I know this is a common issue but how difficult is it to remove and where would i get it repared?
2) The cup holder won't retract..I think I saw this on wheeler dealer..it's another common problem but not something that is of great concern.
3) The biggest issue is he had the IMS replace 5 or 6 years ago. I don't know how many miles he's put on it since the replacement, but I thought I read that the IMS must be replaced every 5 years or xxxx miles. Is this true?
Thanks in advance
Thank you for the reply..I guess I should have also said he did the clutch and rms at the same time, so it may be a while before the the clutch goes south..
LCD for the climate control is an easy repair, maybe an hour max start to finish if doing it the first time. The replacement kit isn't very expensive either.
As said above, the LCD for climate is easy (did it myself in 40 minutes)
However, your post doesn't say which LCD
I also have a bad LCD for the clock (in the gauge cluster) that is more expensive, and much more labor intensive. Just to be clear.
IMS, it depends on which version you have, but since you have a cup holder, I assume you have a single row bearing.
I would ask what replacement they used, but would budget to go to a permanent solution (oil fed bearing) at some point.
If you have a dual row, it is just fine after replacement.
For example, my Dual row was replaced at 105k, and I am at 176k now.
I will look at it again in about 30k -40k miles and replace again.
Mace,
By what you are describing with 5 year replacements, it sounds like the owner has a LN IMS Retro. I too have a LN IMS Retro. I put one in my engine about 10 years ago when I did a 10 year refresh of the car. I just completed my second 10 year refresh last month and replaced the IMS Retro with a new one. I'll get a picture of it and post, but it is in excellent shape. You wouldn't know it's 10 years old, and I do drive my car on the street and track.
The engineering and durability of the Retro is exceptional. But unlike the LN IMS Solution, it's not a one and done permanent solution. You will need to replace the Retro with either another Retro or the Solution.
I have used the Retro instead of the Solution because in addition to driving in the street, i will also track my car to give it some exercise, therefore I don't have a problem with over servicing and having the engine dropped to look at the clutch, flywheel, ims, rm, etc. I just use the Retro and pop a new one in. For those that want a single fix, the solution is your answer.
Either way, you should replace your current one. LN recommend 6 years or 75k miles. Even though to the best of my understanding, none have failed. But you can check the IMS thread for info on failures.
Added: pictures of my old IMS Retro. I shaded the first picture so you can see any imperfections. As you can see, it looks brand new after 10 years, many track days and street driving. These are well built.
Mace, I added pictures of my 10 year old IMSB Retro into post #7.
Tell us more about the car and we can all give you feedback on what to look for and do. Plenty of opinions here on RL so make sure you have thick skin.
If it's the instrument cluster LED, mine repaired itself by sitting in the sun. I know I have posted pictures before. The high ambient temperature somehow repairs it.
