Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I installed the passenger and it worked instantly, so I looked at the pins to see how they match up.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyways, I plugged everything in but the reclining switch didn't work and it seems that some of the pins on the wiring harness don't really line up with one another.
Hi all,
I bought my 996 about 9 months ago and it came with Sparco seats. The previous owner was tall and he needed more room but he, unfortunately, sold the original seats. The Sparcos are terrible, uncomfortable and super stiff to recline so I set out for alternative options. I came across a pair of 986 on Marketplace that I snagged for $200. I knew that they fit but wasn't sure about the wiring, but for $200, I was willing to try them out. The seats are manual, with the exception of the reclining switch (see C in image) and the car comes equipped with the memory seats. Anyways, I plugged everything in but the reclining switch didn't work and it seems that some of the pins on the wiring harness don't really line up with one another. Thankfully, the seats were already set to my preferred position but still want to get to be able to recline. I tried searching but only found results for 996 seats swap in 986s.
Any help would be appreciated.
If I understand your situation, your car is wired for full power seats with memory and your Boxster seats are 'basic' seats. Boxster and 996 seats are identical, so it is just a matter of getting the wiring set up. You didn't mention it but your passenger seat should have plugged right in and worked. You need to set up the drivers side the same way.
The X16 connector under your drivers seat just needs power - red (12 volts) to pin 1 and ground -brown to pin 4 for the seat back to work. The ground wire is likely there already but you can pull the power and ground from the connectors that should be laying there under the seat that would connect to the seat memory controller. The attached wiring diagram shows how basic seats need to be wired.
One recommendation, I would not do any cutting or permanent changes to the memory seat wiring. I find the basic seats to be horribly uncomfortable and you might want to upgrade to memory seats at some point.
This is very helpful. I have not installed the passenger seats yet, but plan on doing that today. I'll report back on how it goes.
Thanks for diagram as well!
I installed the passenger and it worked instantly, so I looked at the pins to see how they match up. The fist two images are from the driver side seat connector. Looking at the 3rd image (996 connector) there are no direct red wires, so I'm not sure if I can repurpose any of the red ones since they are not currently in use. As KeyWest996 stated, I wouldn't want to make anything permanent for if/when I upgrade to memory seats. Maybe there is a way to splice...?
I'm pretty familiar with basic wiring, but this starting to get into uncharted territory for me- especially this being my first Porsche, so please excuse my ignorance.
