Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, So I am looking for an LSD. I have spoken to reps of certain companies, but I am not sure what to buy. My preference and forgive me for saying this, I love going sideways in my 996.1 that came with an LSD from the factory. I am also doing more and more track days. Now I am starting to get to grips with the difference between plated (clutch) and geared LSD's. Nevertheless what would be the best for track / drift? Diff's I found; -Guard (plated, expensive) -Drexler (plated, expensive) -OS Giken (plated, mid price range) - Wavetrac (geared, mid price range) -Quiafe (geared, mid/lower price range) Thanks, Rich

POST 2Original post

I run the OSG and have no complaints. It is the only choice for me on you list other than Guard or a Guard rebuilt factory unit. It's easy to drive, and as far as I am concerned relatively transparent, as in - the car does what I want it to do and I do not feel it brought any downsides as far as on track performance. A downside, likely to be encountered with any of the plate units is slow speed maneuvering clunkiness. I try to spend as little time maneuvering at low speeds as possible, so not a factor for me but something worth mentioning.

Thanks as always, what is the longevity of a OSG like you have?

Unknown - have maybe 15 track days on it with a couple thousand miles of street driving and have no current plans to have it rebuilt. It's a plate diff, so it will wear as you may know. I would expect to get another couple of seasons out of it before having it serviced. When I do, I'll post about it in my thread.

POST 5Original post

I have a Guard that I had installed about 12 years ago. 8 years of DE on it plus street driving. They are excellent. Just had it rebuilt. Was worth the cost.
