Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Really dumb design as it sits at the low point on the floor, so if you have a leak like that it will fill with water and wreak all sorts of havoc on your car (keys stop working, weird locking issues, etc).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

Some good vacuuming and compressed air seems to have solved it.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So my new to me 996 had soaked front floorboards which I feel I traced back to the wiper tray drains. Some good vacuuming and compressed air seems to have solved it. Will still verify sunroof drains mind you to be safe. Once I removed the battery I found this little gem plugging a firewall hole with a decent amount of silicone too. Ironic that I am a plumber and own a plumbing company no? What would the PROPER OEM part be please and who might stock it? Many thanks

POST 2Original post

Oh, I see the problem. That should actually be in German, "Wannenstopper."

POST 3Original post

I looked though my bins from my donor car but couldnt find the grommet. There is probably a part number on it if someone has there cowl apart im sure they can take a pic of it

POST 4Original post

I believe the part you are looking for is # 4 in this diagram. check out the measurements. 62.5 is probably the size of the hole.

POST 5Original post

Just pulled one out of my parts car, you can have for shipping if you want. Although looks like not terribly expensive new. part #999 702 255 40

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes that seems to be it ! Thank you. What seller or link was that ?

POST 7Original post

Looks like autoatlanta. They have good PET drawings. Pick your car then hit the "body" tab and u will find that drawing. Although i suspect that grommet is the smaller one to the left of the brake booster. Take a measurement first y2karreras # one is probably correct since he just took it off his car.

POST 8Original post

I would leave it for some future owner to find!

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just pulled one out of my parts car, you can have for shipping if you want. Although looks like not terribly expensive new. part #999 702 255 40 Yes please. Very kind of you. Will be more than happy to pay shipping. Seems that part # 999 702 255 40 has been replaced by 999 702 255 41 for some reason.

POST 10Original post

No problem at all, just PM me your address and i'll get it sent out..

Download the Porsche PET for the 996. https://www.porsche.com/usa/accessor...artscatalogue/ It makes it much easier to find part numbers. Then pop the number into a parts seller and they will typically give you the updated part number.

This is so weird, I noticed a whole there on my car as well which had some glue to hold some wires and I was wondering if there is a Gromet for that. Thank you so much, this will be helpful; I ll ask tommorow if they stock it here at the dealer.

POST 13Original post

To the OP: do yourself a favor and take the time to relocate the alarm module that is under the drivers seat. Really dumb design as it sits at the low point on the floor, so if you have a leak like that it will fill with water and wreak all sorts of havoc on your car (keys stop working, weird locking issues, etc). You can remove it from the floor and just wire tie in to the base of the seat, that brings it up ~2-3 inches above the floor. Its also a good time to insect it as well, as you might already have some evidence of water there if your floorboards were wet.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Some more browsing and pulling back frunk carpet revealed this additional plug that was clearly pierced at some point by a PO. Question is what is the best link to find this part (and others in the future) and place an order?

POST 15Original post

Quotes source post: 18196398

You can find it and pretty much any and everything else in the 996 PET link that TexSquirrel posted above.

POST 16Original post

AutoAtlanta has the parts catalog online: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p..._911_parts.php

AutoAtlanta has the parts catalog online: http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-p..._911_parts.php Sadly it would seem that they do NOT show nor list the exact rubber plug that I need in their PDF explosion

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 18197316

Yeah sometimes they don't show it in the picture but the part number still exists in the page(s) that follow each appropriate diagram. Unfortunately that doesn't help you much when you're not exactly sure what you're looking for. Reading the PET properly takes patience and experience, and sometimes luck. But it is a valuable skill for any Porsche owner who does their own maintenance.

POST 19Original post

Somewhere in the PET is a list of body plugs with the dimension of the hole they fit. It's on a page with nothing but part numbers as I recall.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks again for the heads up. I will look some more. If anyone has a donor car with that exact plug I will happily pay shipping as well as some extra $$$ for your time.
